Regular-season play will finish up this weekend for the University of Evansville women’s tennis team as they make a trek to the state of Iowa to face Drake and UNI.
Play begins on Saturday as the Purple Aces take on the Bulldogs in Des Moines at 1 p.m. before the finish the weekend and the regular season on Sunday in Cedar Falls with a 10 a.m. match against UNI.
Last weekend, UE finished its home slate on a high notes, earning a 7-0 win over Missouri State. Evansville got off to a nice start in doubles, taking all three match-ups to earn the first point of the day. From there, the squad continued to win in singles as Chieko Yamada and Diana Tkachenko took flights 1 and 2, respectively.
Nicoli Pereira battled from an early hole to take an exciting win at #3 singles in three sets. Flights 4-6 featured wins by Daria Pentsova, Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Andjela Brguljan each in two sets as the Aces won by the final of 7-0 on Brguljan’s Senior Day.
Drake sits at 10-8 overall and 2-3 in league play while the Panthers start the weekend with a 1-4 Valley mark, but are 8-8 on the season.
