On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Evansville Police Officers responded to a report of a bank robbery in progress at the Old National Bank located at the intersection of Main Street and Riverside Drive.
Officers were advised that the suspect, later identified as 38 year old Troy Allen Howell, entered the bank lobby, walked up to a teller’s station, reached in and then snatched cash from the teller’s hand. He then ran out of the bank and fled the area.
A description of Howell was broadcast to responding officers and a K9 team arrived and then began a track. As the K9 officer tracked Howell’s flight from the scene, he provided perimeter officers with Howell’s direction of travel. A group of officers positioned themselves near the casino in response to the information being provided by the K9 officer.
A short time later, the officers observed Howell on Riverside Drive near Ri Ra’s Pub and moved in, taking him into custody without incident.
Witness were able to identify Howell as the robbery suspect. Money was recovered from Howell and the amount of cash approximated the amount taken in the robbery. He was transported to EPD headquarters where he declined to speak with a detective.
Howell was arrested and transported to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center where he is being held on one count of robbery.
