Leighty cards Hole-in-One at Benbow Invitational

The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team placed fifth out of nine teams at the Don Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Abbey Leighty (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th hole from 133 yards out to lead the Screaming Eagles as she tied for 19th with a 25-over 169 (82-87).

Finishing tied for 22nd was junior Taylor Howerton (Evansville, Indiana), as she shot a 27-over 171 (86-85). Also placing in the top half of the field was freshman Grace Davis (Valparaiso, Indiana), who shot a 30-over 174 (83-91) to finish 27th.

As a team, USI shot a 109-over 685 (337-348) to place fifth of nine teams. Flagler College won the team portion of the event with a 43-over 619 (312-307). Lara Ardler of Flagler took the top honor individually with a four-over 148 (76-72).

The Eagles return to the course March 25-26 at Perry Park Golf Course in Perry Park, Kentucky.
