Boscoe Wins Best Blues Guitarist in America Contest

Dr. John the Night Tripper may have started the show but Boscoe France of Madisonville, KY who frequently plays in Evansville stole the show Saturday night in Club Nokia in Los Angeles.

Boscoe and five other national finalists gave it their best efforts but when the contest was over Boscoe was declared the winner. Boscoe’s victory earned him a $50,000 prize package.

The CCO was in the club and will do our best to upload pictures and video from Boscoe’s win tomorrow.

  1. Wow—CCO was on the spot to see one of our own to National Blues contest.

Can’t wait for the report and pictures.

    Congrats Mack!

  2. When shall Mack be playing at the Lamasco Bar on West Franklin street next?

Amy Word you rock for helping to find and bring Macks talent it Evansville!

    • Tuesday night. He’s been playing there every Tuesday night. I don’t know for how much longer though.

My advice to everyone, go see this guy now while you still can cram his fans into a bar.

      • The truth of the matter is that Boscoe will have to leave Evansville if he is to build on this victory. Evansville is no place for a nations best blues guy to be all that he can be.

        • I’ve been telling him the same thing. It’s so sad, but it’s true. It’s not just blues that won’t go anywhere here. It’s all forms of art and all kinds of music.

A musician can eek out a living here playing live a few nights a week, but he will never truly get ahead doing that alone without a day job.

I hope for Boscoe’s sake that he made some important contacts in LA and fosters those contacts to get out of here and tour the world with his music. His musicianship is truly world class. There is no reason he couldn’t be doing exactly what Joe Bonamassa does, but better.

          • Very good comparison to Bonamassa who put on one heck of a show after Boscoe’s win was announced. Boscoe already has equivalent skill and maybe a little better crowd connection.

  3. I saw Mack at the Lamasco a while back and he is outstanding!

Lamasco Bar is a fun place to be. Great food, drinks and upscale crowd.

    Amy Word your the best!

  4. IS IT TRUE that the Editor of CCO Joe Wallace had a front roll seat to watch Boscoe play and win the National Blues contest?

If so, cant’t wait for your report to the CCO readers about this event.

    • There were no seats in the front row. The downstairs was all standing room with a couple of rails. I stood at a rail and my inventive wife Karen sat on what looked like a $1,000 garbage can. We had a great time cheering Boscoe on to victory.

The family of the contestant from California was next to us and they picked Boscoe to win too.

  5. Thanks for covering this event. Boscoe France is a virtuoso and a gentleman. This area should be proud.
