Strong Showings for USI at Tom Hathaway Invite

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field earned seven top-10 finishes over the weekend at the Tom Hathaway Distance Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

With his first appearance in the mile this season, freshman Eli Hill (Bloomington, Illinois) turned in a runner-up performance finishing in four minutes, 29.63 seconds. The finish earned Hill his second top-five performance of the season.

Sophomore Daquan Foster (Jeffersonville, Indiana) turned in his best time in the 60-meter hurdles this season placing ninth in 9.45 seconds. Foster was also 27th in the 200-meters.

A 4×400-meter relay team made up of sophomores Tyler Kruse (Fort Branch, Indiana) and Almustapha Silvester (Indianapolis, Indiana), as well as freshmen Demontrae Lapsley (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Jonathan Martinez (New Albany, Indiana) recorded a fourth-place finish. Their time of 3:35.34 topped their previous season-best by about three seconds.

In the weight throw, senior Jalen Madison (Washington, Indiana) earned his second top-five finish of the year with a distance of 48 feet, 03.40 inches to finish fourth. Junior Logan Paris (Wabash, Indiana) finished 12th in the event with his toss of 31’11.25″.

Two Screaming Eagles earned top-10 finished in the shot put with junior Daniel Gibson (Normal, Illinois) finishing eighth, while Paris earned a ninth-place finish. Both earned their second best distances of the season with marks of 38’06.00″ and 35’10.75″, respectively.

Gibson also competed in the pole vault finishing ninth, while tying his season best mark of 11’05.75″.

USI returns to action next weekend, February 3-24, competing in the Don Denoon Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University.
