IS IT TRUE JANUARY 25, 2017

IS IT TRUE The Crossroads Community Church said attendance for their Easter service has declined so much that they will be moving out of the Ford Center?…the 2016 event at the Ford Center drew about 7,300 people after having drawn 10,000 people back in the days when the Easter service was held at Roberts Stadium?…Ford Center’s location as “inconvenient” due to a shortage of nearby parking according to Crossroads officials?…the church also cited excessive costs as a catalyst for the decision to vacate the Ford Center?…this is not the first time that convenience and costs have been cited for reasons to leave the Ford Center?…similar reasons were given by the former hockey team the Evansville Icemen for their decision to leave?

IS IT TRUE it seems as though an effort is being mobilized to expand the Vanderburgh County Jail so more prisoners can be housed at the present location?…Vanderburgh County has been renting cells across the river in Henderson off and on for many years because we have more prisoners than cells?…while expanding the jail may have become necessary due to overcrowding, this is a pathetic reflection on our community?…at a time when we have a billion dollars in sewer problems, archaic water pipes, decaying sidewalks, and enough potholes to start a farm, the lawless among us are causing us to squander good taxpayer dollars on more jail cells?…this is just plain sad?

IS IT TRUE yesterday City Council President Missy Mosby and County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave had a political war of words concerning a County Commission resolution to increase income taxes to pay for the jail expansion? …Ms Mosby charged that Mrs. Musgrave wasn’t being transparent concerning her support of the tax increase resolution? …Mosby also charged that County Commissioners are pushing this proposal for a vote without properly discussing it in public?  …we find Mrs. Musgrave response to Mosby charge of her not being transparent extremely entertaining? … Musgrave statement that Ms Mosby didn’t understand the use of the word transparent seemly was spot on since the discussion of the tax increase resolution to expand the jail by the Commissioners was held in public? …It’s obvious that Ms Mosby should not take Mrs. Musgrave head on in a political decision because it will prove to be a no win situation for her?

IS IT TRUE that our old friend Mole #3 tells us that a couple members of the Evansville City Council may be quietly conspiring to take an additional 2% of the Homestead Tax Credit for 2017?…we have seen this sort of thing before back in 2009 when the City County Observer exposed a sneaky meeting called by former Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel to take the whole thing away?…since that coup was averted Vanderburgh County homeowners have save over $50 Million that these politicians would have certainly squandered on some fun and games nonsense?…we have to ask what it is about penguins, ball fields, and jaguars that our elected, city officials like more than hard working human beings?

IS IT TRUE in better news, Toyota is expanding their Princeton operation and will be creating an additional 400 jobs?…this will be a good shot in the arm for the local economy?

FOOTNOTE: Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that Mayor Winnecke quietly gave his permission to increase the local income tax from the current 1% to 1.25% to help fund the jail renovation?

  1. Old Yeller brought a yellow sweater to a brain fight. Thank God it’s not transparent.

    • This post was taken down because it was insulting to Councilwoman Missy Mosby.

  2. I’m afraid Ms. Mosby is unarmed when she gets into a battle of brains with Ms. Musgrave.

  3. Mosby talks about transparency when she requested from Josh Clayborne research about the option income tax and Butterfly McGinn statements on the open floor of the council concerning the option income tax. These clowns had their eye on raising the income tax long ago vs cutting expenditures. Now, the promises old yeller made to the FOP have been dampen. Clayborne’s research and commitments should be in the public domain since every council member received the document. CCO ..go out and find ..

    • It is sort of poetic justice that some of the same city council members who rubber stamped all of Jonathan Weinzapfel’s out of control spending, now are faced with what several people warned them about in the first place. All the fake projected revenue figures they trotted out in order to dupe the public into supporting those multi-million dollar projects has now come home to roost!

The good ole’ boys on the Evansville Regional Business Committee are not crying. They have already invested their profits from the projects. Now it is up to the taxpayers to keep those failing projects afloat. The Amazonia project is bleeding red every year. The Ford Center is bleeding red every year.

How do you pay for these things when some of the most valuable riverfront property in Evansville pays a pittance in property taxes every year due to abatement. Now we hear that a tax exempt organization, WNIN, will be moving into another riverfront building, paying no property tax at all. The very idea of a not for profit occupying such a high profile property is absurd!

The establishment is getting theirs, while the taxpayers are getting the bills. Welcome to reality Evansville.

      • When I heard of WNIN’s plans to occupy such a desirable (should be) spot on the riverfront, the exact thought struck me. For one thing, a business solely dependent on donations and government funding shouldn’t have coffers full enough to acquire that piece of property. And if they have donors with large enough pockets to swing it, is this amount of expenditure in the original “public broadcasting” promise that formed it in federal legislation?

        • I believe that President Trump feels as we do. There has been talk about pulling the government funding, and allowing “public television and radio” to become just that, supported by the public. I am all for that.

  4. Crossroads Church decision to not hold Easter services at the Ford Center, citing a shortage of parking:

Mayor Weinzapfel’s Parking Study indicated 6,300 parking spots within a 10 minute walk from the Fraud Center. What the promoters of the Downtown Arena misled the public on was the lack of convenience (cited by Crossroads) of this type of parking. Who wants to walk 10 minutes in your “Sunday Best” ? And do you really want to drag young children a long distance, perhaps in the rain ?

Fraud Center: totally oversold to the public !

  5. $12,000,000 spent on the North Main bike trail would have paid for a lot of additional jail cells.

  6. Police in George, Washington State, have arrested five illegal aliens wanted in connection with the murder of a woman allegedly shot 13 times…The suspects and the material witnesses drove her to a rest area alongside a highway, according to the police report. Varona was seen kicking the back of one of her legs, forcing her to the ground. Rodriguez then allegedly shot her at least 13 times in the head.

After shooting the woman, Mendez Villenueva reportedly wrote a note in Spanish on a piece of carboard and placed it on her back. He secured the message in place by stabbing it into her back with a knife, the report obtained by FiberOne revealed.

The group then fled the scene, traveling to a convenience store where they purchased some beer.

    • SIX – History channel tonight at 9 again Joe.

I look for the series to get better each Wednesday as they progress.

Don’t miss it. They may even kill a Mexican or two before the series ends….

    • Let me take a guess here that a majority of the 2nd state voting took place in swing states.

  7. Love how Mr. Bruce U was all against consolidation when he thought the city was trying to raise taxes on the county. But he is super okay with it if the county tries raising taxes on city.

    Hypocritical.
