IS IT TRUE  property owned by Kerry Chesser located on West Franklin Street has drawn some strong interest from an out of state investor?  … Mr. Chesser received a call from a former Westside who is extremely interested in signing a lease/purchase contract with him on the building he owns on West Franklin Street?  … the out-of-state investor owns a couple of men clothing stores in other states and would like to establish one on West Franklin Street?  …this is a developing story?

IS IT TRUE as of 5:00 A M this morning  the City County Observer had 5,337 reads on our Facebook  account and had 3,926 on our line edition concerning a article written by Amy Rivers-Word concerning Kerry Chesser desire to open an upscale Restaurant-Bar on West Franklin Street? …all we can say about these numbers is “WOW”?

IS IT TRUE the Old National Events Plaza is having a record breaking year?  …we predict the long overdue renovations to the Old National Events Plaza shall bring new opportunities that will insure that 2017 will be even more successful?  …we congratulate SMG staff for doing a great job in marketing the Old National  Events Plaza?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why Mayor Winnecke hasn’t asked DMD Director Kelly Coures to encourage the “Zoning Appeals Board”  to approve a Restaurant-Bar to locate on West Franklin Street?  …Mr. Coures has done a masterful job in encouraging the “Zoning Appeals Board” to approve some creative projects located in the Haynies Corner area?  …we know he can do similar on West Franklin Street?

IS IT TRUE we just heard that City Council President Missy Mosby and Vice President Jonathan Weaver has just join the effort to encourage the “Zoning Appeals Board” to approve the zoning request to allow a Restaurant-Bar to locate on West Franklin Street?  …we are pleased to see Mosby and Weaver to take an active role in this issue?

IS IT TRUE we are surprised that 6th Ward City Councilman Jim Brinkmeyer hasn’t taken a public stance on the West Franklin Street Restaurant-Bar issue?  … during his election campaign for City Council he said; “he was for commercial development on the Westside”?  …it time for Councilman Brinkmeyer to put up or shut up?

IS IT TRUE we strongly believe that Mayor Winnecke can influence the decision concerning the approval of an upscale Restaurant-Bar located on the West Franklin Street?

  2. Love to see Paul’s Men’s wear having competition on the west side. As some may recall, when the council tried to increase economic development downtown, Franklin Street and N. Main, by eliminating the parking issue, the dude who owns Paul’s Men’s wear who’s store closes at 6 pm did not want car’s parked in front of his store. Understandable!, but, what is not understandable is Franklin generally does not come alive until later in the evening after his store closing. So, even though the owner of Piston’s has come under some attack about the objection in KC’s attempt to open his night club, you can count on it that the owner of Paul’s Men’s Wear has his fingerprints on the situation.

    • Don’t know the guy, but there’s off-street parking behind Paul’s and the shoe store. I’ve had to use it many times because of no spaces on the street and I’ll guarantee you it wasn’t in the evening. More like around noon to 3pm which is when my old bones go shopping.
      I’m sort of reading a personal thing into your post or you aren’t familiar with us Westsiders’ shopping on Franklin Street during daylight.

    • I don”t know where you got your information about Paul”s, but I wouldn’ t think parking would worry them. They have a large lot behind the store with a rear entrance.

    Just an FYI that it is illegal, under State law (and punishable by fine and/or jail time) to contact any member of the Board of Zoning Appeals prior to a hearing and a decision on a matter to come before them. It would be against Indiana law for the Mayors office or any other elected official to contact the Board of Zoning Appeals about the West Franklin case.

    I can cite the law if necessary

Indiana Code 36-7-4-920 (g) says that a person may not communicate with any member of the board of zoning appeals before the hearing with intent to influence the member’s action on a matter pending before the board. Exparte contact occurs when contact is made outside of the official public venue (in this case a public hearing).

    The singling out of board of zoning appeals members is because it is a quasi-judicial body, making its function different than other planning bodies. The board of zoning appeals makes binding decisions, while the plan commission often makes a recommendation to the legislative body.

      • Absolutely! That is the best way to help a local item under consideration. BZA meets at 4 PM, and that should be doable for most local folks.

      • PS: The public is allowed to send letters to BZA members by mailing them to the Area Plan Commission at the Civic Center. The staff at APC will then make copies of all letters and give them to the BZA members in their packet of info for the meeting that month. While direct communication is against the law, this method allows people who cannot attend in person still have their voices to be heard

      • Also, the City Council could pass an ordinance to waive the parking ordinance for Franklin Street. According to the article by Amy Rivers Word, two years ago such an ordinance was voted in for parking for Haynie’s Corner Arts District, Jacobsville Join In, and Evansville Downtown Alliance Main Street. Franklin Street was part of this ordinance but was removed at the last minute. If there is support from Mosby and Weaver, Jim Brinkmeyer should re-introduce this and get it passed by the city council and make and end-run around the Zoning Board of Appeals.

    • Classy ,remember this is Evansville we are talking about , those in charge here don’t follow the laws,they may not be breaking them but they are sure bending the heck out of them

According to Conway, Clinton still faces a challenge in rebuilding her own image and suggested this was part of Trump helping the former first lady “heal.”

    Too bad the mayor is about to turn ONB Events Plaza over to the geniuses at VenuWorks. You know the people who don’t realize there are other genres of music BESIDES country? The people who own a controlling interest of the new hockey team? How did the $5 ticket/beer night go for them?

  8. I’d say somebody is afraid of the competition. Most of the stores on Franklin Street do not have off street parking. I’d say the more the merrier!

  10. I think there are plenty of drunken places on Franklin. Everybody wants to pave paradise and put up a parking lot, and a bar. You cannot keep attacking the board and attacking the Pistons owner just to get your way?
    At this point I would just feel bullied if I was a member and would never change my vote just because of your threats.
