BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men’s swimming and diving team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)/TYR Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll released on Wednesday. The Hoosier women’s team is ranked No. 12 in the country.
“It is an honor to be recognized as the No. 1 team in the nation,†IU head swimming coach Ray Looze said. “I believe the last time we held this ranking was at the end of the 1973 season. We realize as a program the most important ranking is the last one and we will work hard to finish as highly as possible. All our swimmers and divers are excited to have the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis at the IU Natatorium this coming March.”
The Hoosier men got the 2016-17 season off to a tremendous start this past weekend, sweeping a two-day tri-meet with No. 2 Texas and No. 8 Florida in Bloomington. The Longhorns are the two-time defending NCAA Champions, while Florida placed third last year at the NCAA’s.
The IU women also started the year off well, sweeping No. 18 Florida in two meets, but falling to No. 7 Texas. Rankings are compiled by CSCAA-member coaches and released on a bi-weekly basis. The next polls will be released November 9, 2016.
The Indiana men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool this Friday, Oct. 28 at 11:00 a.m. ET when the Hoosiers face Kentucky and Tennessee in a tri-meet of nationally-ranked squads in Lexington.
