Indiana Right to Life PAC endorsement statement
July 12, by Mike Fichter} PAC chairman
On behalf of the Indiana Right to Life Political Action Committee, I am pleased to make today’s announcement regarding our endorsement in state senate district 50. We believe this district should be represented by a state senator who shares the pro-life values of Southwest Indiana, and who believes that taxpayers should be protected from having their tax dollars help to underwrite businesses that do abortions in Indiana. We believe the candidate who shares those values is Terry White.
Today, we are pleased to announce our endorsement of Terry White for the state senate. Terry’s opponent in this race is Senator Vaneta Becker, who is easily the most liberal Republican
member of the Indiana Senate. In 20111 when the Indiana Senate passed historic pro-life legislation that protected pain-capable children at 20 weeks, increased the quality of informed consent information that women receive when contemplating an abortion, and opted Indiana out of abortion coverage in state health exchanges required under the new federal health law, Senator Becker was one of only two Republicans in the Senate who voted against the bill.
Frankly, we believe that most local voters assume that Senator Becker is a conservative because she is a Republican. The truth is that in her entire political career, she has rarely faced a serious challenger who could point out just how liberal she really is on issues like abortion. Terry White’s pro-life values will provide a stark contrast in this race, giving voters a clear choice on election day.
Indiana Right to Life is pleased to endorse Terry White for state senate, and we look forward to working with him at the Statehouse to advance legislation that will protect the unborn and provide women with greater access to positive alternatives to abortion in Indiana.
Being catholic and a democrat it can be hard to find candidates I can support that support my values. This year it seems there are at least several pro life democrats I can back. Terry White is one of them now.
I do not understand how any catholic could be registered as a democrat. The values espoused by the catholic church are in direct conflict with the democrat party. Quite frankly the democrats repudiate the values of catholics and denegrate those values every chance they get.
That said Terry White is a democrat that a republican catholic should consider supporting.
Catholics have values?
Mr. White does not have my vote for precisely the reason stated in the article above.
A democrat supported by right to life is a republican by any other name…why isn’t labor supporting this candidate?
Labor seems to be backing the Republican who throws them a bone now and then to make the Dems happy. Though a vote from her makes it 36-14 instead of 37-14. Its okay to be “pro union” when you know your vote doesnt impact anything. The unions want the democrat to carry their water on every bill and back their agenda with out question but fail to support the party that has been their handmaiden for 40 years. The sooner the Dems move away from being the labor’s toady the more success the Dems will have.
And so it doesn’t make any difference if we have another democrat
Democrats for Becker!!
A movement begins
We go rid of one county chairman, looks like it’s time to get rid of another one!
White has been great support for warrick republicans
I think if you look carefully you will only find on the Vanderburgh County Election Ballot this year 4 Democrats that are pro choice. Barack Obama, Rick Davis, Gail Riecken and I think but am not sure Annie Groves. John Gregg, Dave Crooks, Joe Donnelly, Trent Van Haaften, Terry White, Steve Melcher and the rest are all on the record as being pro life.
Only 4 dems to vote for!
Right to life should not be directed by a political party, yet the leaders of the Democrat party generally dictate what their platform contains. It is time for true Democrats to step forward and take control of their party.
I disagree with the poster who wonders how someone coule be both a Democrat and a Catholic. The Catholic religion has many issues that should appeal to Democrats and Republicans alike.
As to Veneta Becker, she has always been a RINO, but the Ds have put poor candidates against her. This fall, she will finally realize what it is like to be in a real campaign.
She lost the Mayoral bid for Evansville 20 years ago. She campaigned hard then. I remember.
I was looking forward to voting a straight ticket for the first time. Terry has my vote causing the split.
Vanetta’s stance on how to sing the national athem has me wondering…
That was bizarre, hopefully she’ll retract that sentiment.
When you look at her record she doesnt have much to show in the form of bill introduced that have passed.
To requlate how the Anthem is sung and to set up a regulatory aparatus to track its perfomance sounds like the highest waste of taxpayers dollars imaginable. My grandfather fought in WWII for the principles sung about in that antehm and to tell me how to sing it is just down right un american. On top of that she made us the butt of jokes world wide with this crazy stunt. Almost as bad as that nut job going after the girl scouts. Maybe she has gotten a little senile in her 31 years up in indy or just so out of touch with what voters want and need in their state leaders.

I can sympathize with Becker on that one:

34 years in elected public office is enough.
I shall cast my vote for Terry White.
It’s time for Ms. Becker to be retired from political life.
Let’s see now. Trent Van Haaftan on the west and Terry White on the east. Downtown Evansville will be caught in a Blue Dogma vice grip for sure.
