The Evansville Otters clinch their spot in the wildcard with a ten to one win over the Southern Illinois Miners. Starting pitcher Preston Olson dominated on the mound allowing one hit and only one run.
Olson moved to seven and three with the win on the night. Olson pitched for seven innings on the night and had three strikeouts. The Otters started the scoring early with Rolando Gomez blasting a solo shot over the right field wall. In the fourth, the Otters extended the lead three to zero. First, Nik Balog brought home Christopher Riopedre with a RBI-double, then Julio Rodriguez knocked in Balog with a RBI-single.
In the fifth, the Otters put up two more runs. Riopedre brought in Josh Allen with a RBI-single and Denzel Richardson had his own RBI-single to bring in Jeff Gardner. In the sixth, Chris Sweeney blasted a home run off the scoreboard in left field to make it six to zero.
In the seventh, the Miners finally put a run up on the board. Steve Marino hit a SAC-fly deep into center field to bring in Nolan Early. The Otters would answer the Miners with Richardson’s RBI-double. In the eight, Gardner hit a two run blast to extend the lead to the final score, ten to one.
