Dr. Bucshon Echoes Concern with Administration’s Ransom Payment to Iran

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. echoed House Speaker Paul Ryan’s call for accountability and an explanation regarding the Administration’s reported $400 million cash ransom payment to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The Obama Administration should immediately provide an explanation to the American people and Congress regarding reports that it paid $400 million in cash as a ransom to the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism and should be held accountable if those reports are true.”

In a statement, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said, “If true, this report confirms our longstanding suspicion that the administration paid a ransom in exchange for Americans unjustly detained in Iran. It would also mark another chapter in the ongoing saga of misleading the American people to sell this dangerous nuclear deal. Yet again, the public deserves an explanation of the lengths this administration went to in order to accommodate the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.”

BACKGROUND:

According to a reporter by the Wall Street Journal, “the Obama administration secretly organized an airlift of $400 million worth of cash to Iran that coincided with the January release of four Americans detained in Tehran,” as a down payment on $1.7 billion the U.S. Treasury Department paid to Iran.

According to the State Department, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been officially designated a State-Sponsor of Terrorism dating back to 1984.

  1. Dr. Buschon can calm down. There was no ransom. It was one of the shipments of Iran’s own frozen assets in this country that we agreed to unfreeze as a part of the Iran deal. It’s odd, though, that a lot of people have criticized the President for refusing to ransom our hostages, so if it had been a ransom that should be okay with them. Just a thought, but if it had been a ransom it would be stupid to publicly admit it. That would make hostage-taking a lot more attractive to foreign powers, wouldn’t it?
Reagan should have died in prison for the Iran Contra scandal, IMHO.

    • This is a good way to try to draw attention away from the troubles in the Trump campaign, though.

      • He’s a good soldier when it comes to soldiering for people like Trump, a fellow piece-of-work who he’s endorsed. He soldiers not for the 8th District though. Just craven anti-science, anti-human blather. At least he can’t hurt much, most in congress won’t deal with him. Calling that money ‘ransom’ is not true and he knows it. He also knows he draws from the same base Trump does, uneducated bigots.

They are reduced to just making stuff up now to distract from that fool at the top of their ticket.

  2. Great points Dr. Bucshon! The Obama regime will go down in history as providing comfort and aid to enemies sworn to destroy us. It’s as if Obama is in a race to out work the European attempt at self induced national suicide.
