Governor’s Association Donates $500,000 To John Gregg’s Campaign

The Governor’s race in Indiana is heating up. Democrats are trying to capitalize on Governor Pence dropping out of the race here in Indiana. The Democratic Governor’s Association donated $500,000 out to John Gregg’s campaign.

Several GOP contenders are vying to replace Pence on the ballot, but a candidate will not be selected until July 26th when the 22-member Republican Party Committee meets behind closed doors.

Whoever is selected could be at an organizational and fundraising disadvantage with Pence’s key campaign operatives joining the vice presidential campaign.

Jasper Community Comes Together With Hope Garden

The Jasper community is coming together to help others eat healthy with the help of its “Hope Garden”.
This garden, an initiative from Memorial Hospital, helps feeding programs and area schools in several counties in the tri-state.

The goal is to not just “treat” the community it serves as a hospital, but to be “preventative”. Board members say, that’s what the healthy foods from the garden help them do.

Faith Community Nurse Lanet Owen says, “And we’re always looking at how can we address the community with prevention and wellness and we know we need to start from the ground level up.”

As of now, the Jasper garden is only two acres. But board members say they hope to expand and grow inside as well.

A TASTE OF GERMANY IN JASPER

Locals refer to it as “the Schnitz”, what started as a tavern in town is now one of the most recognizable restaurants in Jasper.
The Schnitzelbank offers a piece of old world Germany right in southern Indiana.

The Hanselman family has owned “the Schnitz” for 55 years and have transformed their business over the decades.

Jasper’s rich German heritage is one of the reasons the owner’s say the business has thrived.

Today the company brews its own beer and has an incredibly successful catering platform.

Alan Hanselman now runs the business his father started years ago with recipes, that like many in jasper, came from Germany.

Hanselman says, “What he did is he went to a lot of the local families around here and asked if any of them had any recipes that came over with their family’s from Germany and those are the ones we still use today, we haven’t dickered with them or anything like that and our Goulash, our Sauerbraten, and all of them, the Weiner Schnitzel they’re all family recipes that were here in Jasper.”

With all the traditional German Fare at “The Schnitz” surprisingly, the salad bar is the top selling item.
