Nearly10,000 people are turning 65 years old every day in the United States. With the senior population growing faster than any other age group, organizations like SWIRCA & More are experiencing an increased demand for social service programs focused on seniors. Unfortunately, only 2 percent of funding from the nation’s largest grant makers is specifically focused on seniors (Foundation Center). SWIRCA relies on the generous support of the Evansville community to continue programs and services that empower seniors to remain independent and enhance their quality of life.
On July 12 to 14, SWIRCA & MORE will participate in the first-ever GIVE65 Event, a 65-hour online giving event to help nonprofit organizations serving seniors raise funds online and increase awareness. Sixty-five nonprofits from 31 states are participating in the inaugural event. During the GIVE65 Event, SWIRCA & More will receive a $5,000 matching grant from Home Instead Senior Care Foundation to incentivize giving at the local level. Financial rewards are also available to organizations raising the most money or having the most donors participate. Donations of $10 or greater are accepted.
“GIVE65 is an innovative way for our community to raise awareness and help our seniors,†said Keith Gander, VP of Development for SWIRCA & More.
The 65-hour GIVE65 Event begins at midnight on Tuesday, July 12 and continues until 5:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 14. The virtual event is an initiative of the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation® and the nation’s first and only crowd-fundraising platform focused exclusively on helping nonprofit organizations across the country raise funds for programs and services benefiting seniors.
“Every gift will go toward helping seniors at the local level in communities across the country,†said Roger Baumgart, executive director of Home Instead Senior Care Foundation. “We’re excited to partner with SWIRCA & MORE for the inaugural GIVE65 EVENT, which we hope will engage the nation and shine a light on the need for financial support for senior-focused nonprofit programs and services. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for seniors around the country, especially those who are most in need of our help.â€
Beginning July 12, anyone who wants to support the mission of SWIRCA, can visit www.give65.org/swircawellness to make a secure, online donation. Through GIVE65, donations will help SWIRCA to fund a new Wellness Center.
The Wellness Center, located within the larger Activity Center, provides a local exercise room for individuals 50 years and older. Unfortunately, the current Wellness Center is grossly underutilized by our community members because of barriers created by inadequately constructed space. The Wellness center does not have a ceiling or door as well as very minimal equipment.
Fundraising for the Wellness Center is underway but we are still short the funds to complete it. Generous donations have already been made by American Senior Communities, the Randall K. and Rebecca L. Family Foundation and the Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County but we still need help reaching our goal.
