In today’s newspaper we see an article that states the public was allowed in the publicly owned amphitheater “for a look around” at the current state of the facility.
Nothing could be more instructive on how this city fails to take care of the public’s investments, even when the city has an endowment to use for that purpose. What an indictment of an either feckless, or corrupt, local government! What those people saw should have been enough to make them cry.
Press, Amen bro.
don’t the Indianapolis guys want to get in on the mesker action?
It’s good to hear that Brandon Lee Ferguson is likely going to run for County Council.
The Mesker Music Trust was originally for music in the parks. The Administrator of the trust changed the focus to include other musical activities. This is not a huge fund and your inciuation that the City controls this is totally false!!!! I expect a retraction and a correct story on the Trust be presented to your conspiring theory readers.
Dick
Who exactly do you think you are to make such demands?
Talk about delusions of grandeur……
Dick would rather see the money go to the Evansville Civic Theater.
Or to banning guns in Evansville.
Press and JoeBiden put up facts, you put up another weak defense of the Winnecke administration.
Hold your ground. A couple of new police horses just came online, they could well generate a new job for you. The Singing, Dancing Scooperino.
What is inciuation? You need to get a grip. If CCO gets you all upset, don’t read it.
The trust document that I read, which was created when George Mesker’s widow passed, indeed had mention of allowing the funds to be used for music “in the city’s parks”, the wording came after the wording that stated the funds should be used for the benefit of Mesker Park, and to bring music to the city parks.
Clearly Mr. Mesker, after gifting the amphitheater to the city, expected that it would be taken care of (maintained) and the trust was created to reinforce that maintenance would take place, and to bring music to the city parks.
One has only to look at the place to realize that the original intent of having a nice, functional, amphitheater has gone by the boards. What a travesty.
You and your ilk have wasted enough of our cities tax dollars on needless items
ET:
Look at the last 4 pager, ( statements 7, 8, 9, and 10 ) of the above linked Mesker Music Trust 2014 Form-990 for the list of organizations which received grants from the trust. I have my doubts as to how many of these recipients actually used the grant money to perform in a city park, and surly none of them used the funds to perform that year at Mesker Amphitheater.
So says Dick. What I read is that it was for several interest including public musicals, Mesker Zoo and the amphitheater. You,re right that there is little money in the fund. The $250.000 the Meskers set aside in 1941 would be $4,269,695 in today’s money. So after 70 years at simple compounding with a 5% annual draw, it seems that the fund should have performed better than just tripling. Maybe you can explain that to us Dick while you wait for your apology.
Engbers was there with his hand out when they opened up that Trust, telling us what George Mesker really meant. He must not have got enough for his theatre to make him happy. The Civic Theatre had 3 representatives, including him, at those meetings.
I like the idea about Fontanel in Nashville. I think if we build it, the good bands would have shows there. That’ll bring crowds and business to Franklin Street bars and maybe even the new casino. The Nut Club and Tropicana should back it all the way.
I believe what us being referred to as the “Fontanel Amphitheater” is actually the “Carl Black Chevy Woods Amphitheater”. You can search for it on Google Maps. That’s a different type of facility than Mesker. It would take some MAJOR renovation to convert Mesker into that type of facility. It would require the zoo to sacrifice a large chunk of land.
Thanks PoseyCountyDutchman for your excellent research. So acknowledge and corrected.
Thanks of your support and input.

The offer was made during republican Russ Lloyd Sr.’s administration, which may be why the democratic party operative Larry Aiken failed to strike a deal.
IMHO it should have happened. Aiken’s background as a promoter of entertainment was certainly a plus for the deal. Another missed opportunity.
In 1978: AC/DC, Cheap Trick, and REO Speed Wagon appeared at Mesker.
The issue of Obama=Hillary rushing to import Sharia following Muslims is where Trump can win the election. No sane person can feel safe with the this huge self inflicted national security risk created by Obama=Hillary.

If Sharia law is tolerated in the United States, I am moving elsewhere. It is basically what Europeans did during the dark ages. We moved beyond barbarism and hacking off heads before this country was even founded. Why anyone would entertain allowing such brutalism even in the name of “freedom of religion” is senseless.
Joe, to insinuate that this will actually happen here shows you’re losing it. I used to think you were just a smart man who had right leaning tendencies on certain issues. Now I think you may be gulping the trump koolaid.
