The 22nd annual Deaconess/EVSC Health Science Institute is underway, with 25 high school students from southwestern Indiana living on campus at Deaconess Hospital. Yesterday students heard from 2009 HSI alum Clare Scheller, who spoke of her experiences with leukemia and the perspectives of a patient and a student. Then students worked with Deaconess trauma team and AirEvac staff with practicing back-boarding and trauma scene protocol. Please see the attached pictures.

Today students will experience surgery orientation, tour of the Women’s Hospital, two physicians, and the Chief Nursing Officer at Deaconess.

On Wednesday at 8am in Johnson Hall on the campus of Deaconess Main Campus students will be dressed up in make-up and fake injuries to practice triage training; this experience will provide great picture and video opportunities
