SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team sits in fifth place after round two of the NCAA East Super Regional. The three round even is being held at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois.
With the opening round 305, the Screaming Eagles carded a second-round 326 to fall to fifth. The defending 2015 National Champions, University of Indianapolis leads the event with a score of 592, plus-16. Grand Valley State University and Findlay University remain in the top three, 22 strokes back of Indianapolis. Ashland University is in fourth, 4 strokes ahead of USI.
The Eagles teed off in the first group with the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Ashland University on the front nine. Senior Anastasia Carter (Granger, Indiana) bested her opening round 78 with a middle-round 76. Carter, plus-10, sits in a tie for 12th.
Sophomore Taylor Howerton (Evansville, Indiana) carded a second round 83. Her 159 total strokes puts her in a tie for 21st with teammates, senior Brittanie Garrison (Evansville, Indiana) and junior Allison Koester (Wadesville, Indiana). Garrison was tied for eighth after the first round while Koester was tied for 10th. Rounding out the USI scores was senior Molly English (Wadesville, Indiana) who’s second round 85 brought her total up to 172 strokes for the tournament.
