University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field jumped 12 spots to No. 13 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Top 25 Computer Rankings.
USI bolstered their potential scoring power at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships this weekend as seniors Johnnie Guy (Palmyra, Indiana) and Tyler Pence (Springfield, Illinois) had automatic and provisional qualifying times, respectively, in the 10,000 meters.
Guy, who ranks second, nationally, in the 5,000 meters, posted the top time in Division II and the second-fastest time across all NCAA divisions when he crossed the finish line in the 10,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational Sunday night with a mark of 28 minutes, 34.79 seconds.
Pence, who won the 10,000 meters at the Hillsdale “Gina†Relays last Friday, ranks seventh in the nation in the event with his time of 29:34.48. He also ranks 16th in the nation in the 5,000 meters.
In addition to Guy and Pence, juniors Chase Broughton (Marengo, Indiana) and Josh Guy (Palmyra, Indiana) rank in the top 10 of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000 meters, respectively. Broughton is sixth in the country in the steeplechase, while Guy ranks ninth in the 10,000 meters.
Broughton and Josh Guy also rank 23rd and 26th, respectively in the 5,000 meters, while junior Noah Lutz (Evansville, Indiana) is 30th in the 10,000 meters.
