MAY 2 “IS IT TRUE” ?

49

IS IT TRUE yesterday Alex Schmitt called a new conference and charged that Cheryl Musgrave had a conflict interest issue concerning the IU Medical School?  …Mrs. Musgrave made the following statement pertaining to Mr. Schmitt allegations towards her?  …Mrs. Musgrave stated ” The people of Vanderburgh County know me and know what I stand for.”  “These wild smears by Mr. Schmitt are totally false”.  “Alex Schmitt is a desperate, unemployed and sued political candidate that doesn’t pay his bills.’  “On Tuesday, I’m confident the voters will make the right call”?  …all we can say about this is let the voting begin?

IS IT TRUE about a year and half ago DMD Director Kelly Coures recommend to the ERC that they purchase the vacant and dilapidated CWS building located at 800 N. Main?  …he used just under $600,000 of our hard earned tax dollars to purchased this concrete block  building on the behalf of the ERC located in the crime ridden and seedy part of town?   …we now hear Mr. Coures has applied for three (3) remodeling permits for mold removal, dry wall replacement and new heating and air conditioning replacement. concerning this building?  …we can’t wait to see how many more thousand of dollars DMD Director Coures  and ERC Board will waste on bringing this building up to city codes?  …we encourage you to drive down to 800 North Main and tell us that you would have invested just under $600,000 in this old vacant and dilapidated CWS building?  …we wonder why the DMD  Director and ERC felt that this property should be purchased at a price  well over assessed value? …we also wonder why the Mayor gave his DMD Director Coures  and the ERC Board his support and approval to purchase this building without any reasonable plans to do with it once the city buys it?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if the Mayor, City Council members,  ERC Board,  DMD staff or any well heeled investor would invest just under $600,000 of their personal money to purchase the vacant CVS building located on North main without any plans to develop it into a profitable venture?

IS IT TRUE we read with interest a public relation article published in Sundays  Evansville Courier and Press written by the Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College Southwest and Wabash Valley Jonathon Weinzapfel?  …we question his statement that “Ivy Tech is presently “creating a pathway to success for its students”?  …presently Ivy Tech graduation rates are extremely low and the drop out rate for enrolled students are extremely high? …it time for IVY Tech to hire a new state wide President to re-direct the schools educational offerings and start correcting the student drop out rate problems?  …by doing so, we believe that the State of Indiana political power brokers will decide to include Ivy Tech medical students in their future plans to participate in the soon to be built Evansville IU Medical School?

IS IT TRUE we hope former Indiana Lieutenant Governor Dr. Sue Ellsperman will become the next president of Ivy Tech Community College system because she is  the “ideal candidate” for this position?  …as the new IVY Tech president she will “start creating a pathway to success” for its students day one? …that Dr.  Ellsperman has a Doctoral Degree in Industrial Engineering and was the founding Director of the Center for Applied Research and Economic Development of the University of Southern Indiana? …we believe that former Lt. Governor Dr, Sue Ellsperman is extremely  well qualified to take IVY TECH to the next level?

  1. The ERC overspends $535,000 for the old CVS building on N. Main. Mesker Amphitheater sits vacant and rotting. Genius moves, ERC.

  2. By the way….the lead today in the IS IT TRUE….
re: Cheryl Musgrave’s comments…..WOW. Good lead Editor.
Slow to anger. But when provoked, “Bang! Bang!” Dead. Slide gun back in holster.

  3. Big Sign Schmitt, aka Bill Ducker, showed his lack of substance at their debate. He is desperate to the point of leaving his considerable baggage fair game. I’m glad Cheryl fired back at thim. Winnecke once again thumbed his nose at the citizens when he put this guy up.

    • Alex didn’t realize how badly he flubbed the debate until he saw it on tape and heard comments by observers. He probably believed Carol’s “happy talk” about his performance, when even she knew he did an awful job. So, he did the dumbest thing he could do. He called a news conference to try to throw a handful of mud and all he did was dirty his own hands again. Winnecke doesn’t have much talent when it comes to “hand-picking” his candidates.

      • Btw, his lack of talent in selections goes beyond the political arena. Just stay toned when the final dollars are counted in regards to the Downtown Motel. Those HCW guys will show their duplicity together with Sir Santa Winnecke.

  4. I wish the CCO would quit misrepresenting how much the city paid for the rotting CVS building on North Main. It was not $535,000. With the hefty commission it was just under $600,000. Yes, the city even paid a commission on the transaction where the owner wanted to dump this structure on the taxpayers.

    • I thought commissions were generally included in the price, not paid in addition to the sale price. Does the city do that differently?

    • Of course, but remember this that the N. Main Street projected started at 13 million and now, as reported is 18 mil and naturally IN-Bed Ed and Associates fees have risen from 1.5 mil to over 2 mil. As the prophet said, ” People always get the government they deserve”

    • Thanks George for your input. Shall make the correction in todays IIT.

      Thanks for reading the CCO.

  5. If your “Reader’s Poll” is in the right ballpark today it looks like Wayne’s candidate ex-DJ Kincaid isn’t looking so good. Of course, neither do his other choices.

  6. 800 North Main will be updated for several hundred thousand dollars. It will then be sold to a friend for a token payment. Then they will be given a tax abatement for the property. Hear me now believe me later.

    • Now, Now . . when Sir Winnie has received 2.8 million from the “Friends of Winnie” pool that is a massive amount of PAYBACK and will required some “thinking out of the box” BS.

  7. If past results of the polling done on this site is any indication I wouldn’t get excited.

    • It missed on the last mayor’s race, but overall has a good record. It’s called more winners than losers, Bruce Ungetheim and Dave Wedding among them.

  8. You can learn a lot at Ivy Tech Community College. I have taken classes on everything from air conditioning to photography. I never considered or needed a degree. I just wanted to learn something. Am I considered a non graduate. Probably half the people in my classes were like me. They were there to upgrade their skills or just learn something new. I have taken classes there that were not offered at the local universities. Useful classes that helped me earn a living while I earned a living.

    • “Am I considered a non graduate…”

I’ve wondered the same thing. I successfully completed an EMT course there, but since it wasn’t an associates degree, am I one of the non-graduates?

  9. Looks like Weinzapfel is screwing up this job too. He couldn’t handle it at ONB, he couldn’t handle it as the Mayor of Evansville, and now he can’t handle it at Ivanhoe Tech.

  10. Hello everyone, the following post was removed from my page after “someone” flagged this post as hate speech. I won’t repost the pic but it was just a muddled frame of his video with an x over it and said unemployed and desperate.
“Let me save everyone 5 boring minutes of their life. This unaccomplished privileged kid has no clue what it’s like to work for a client. We are A-OK with Ms. Musgrave’s work ethic; however we have serious problems with this candidate’s work ethic. He has none. He quit his job (that his daddy got for him) with no prospects (oh really?) fabricated an impressive, albeit misleading, online resume, and stated in the CP that he plans to spend only 15 hours a week working in this job. Worst of all, he said at the debate that he supports the elected commissioners’ right to move employee pension money without input from anyone. Do the right thing, Evansville. Vote for Cheryl Musgrave.”

What do you all think? I think it’s a pretty tame and fair criticism of a public figure, which is allowed by Facebook. After all, most of this was reported in the mainstream media. Coddled and thin skinned? Meh. Some people can dish it out but they sure can’t take it. I did notice that he couldn’t make eye contact with the camera, very squirrelly….

  11. ****BREAKING NEWS*****

On the eve of the race for Vanderburgh County Commissioners seat on Republican ticket:

Is It True: That while Alex Schmitt has pleaded that his past due bills, from medical bills to property taxes, were simply an oversight, that while his bills were due he chose to “live the high life” instead of paying his responsibilities?

Is It True: That the various news reports shows that the property tax issues started in 2012, and continued for the next three years up to 2015. In those cases he was late by almost a month on the 2013 spring tax bill, which case him a 5% tax penalty. For the 2013 tax bill he was late on the fall tax bill, which was due in November and he did not pay until February (4 months late) and cost him a 10% penalty.

While Alex blamed all of it on miscommunication, you have to wonder how between you, your homeowners insurance, and your mortgage holder, how do you make three years of mistakes? Wouldn’t you figure out there was an issue from the time of the first late bill and the 5% penalty?

Is It True: The news reported that his first medical collection case began in April of 2013, and the cases apparently run all the way thru 2016. The news reports that there have been a minimum of four legal collection cases filed in court against Alex. Since the first collection case was for April of 2013, this means that you can reasonably infer that the actual medical services (either doctors or hospitals) were given to him in 2012.

Is It True: That during the years of 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, when Alex was racking up thousands upon thousands of past due medical bill obligations, he told the news that “I didn’t know that certain bills were in collections” and that “he didn’t know collections actions had been filed against him” All of that would seem to be hard to believe since not only is he an attorney, he would have received numerous bills from the doctors and hospitals. But it is also a simple fact that when he was sued he would have received copies of the lawsuit on his door when he was “served” Just like the tax bills left unpaid, after it happened the first time wouldn’t most people have investigated the situation?

Is It True: That while Alex was not paying several thousand dollars of his medical bills, he certainly found plenty of money to go on numerous lavish vacation trips.

Is It True: Where, do you wonder, he went while he owed doctors and hospitals for all the treatments he received? Well, here is an overview of some of the places he apparently went instead of paying his bills (and property taxes)

    2011
    Denver ski trip
    Washington DC site-seeing
    Sea World in Florida

    2012
    Denver – Golfing resort trip

    2013
    Colorado – Breckenridge ski resort
    St Louis – Final Four
    New York City site seeing

    2014
Hawaii (where he also visited in 2007)

And he loves sports trips as well
Multiple trips to see Colts, including the Colts playoffs in 2010
    Yankees in 2013 (and 2009)
    Cubs in 2011
    Tampa Bay Marlins in 2011
    Yankees spring training in 2010

Is It True: That the number of voters in Vanderburgh County that accumulated several thousand dollars in medical bills and late property taxes that would be able to afford over a dozen luxury trips around the country (including Hawaii) can probably be counted on less than two hands?

Is It True: A “Letter To The Editor” last month by Phyllip Davis stated his support for Alex by saying “I want a person who has known the struggles that many people in our community have experienced. I want a person who knows how to face financial problems and take care of them. I want a person who understands accountability and responsibility”

Is It True: That a candidate who “faced financial problems” and “understands accountability and responsibility” would display that and take care of his “financial problems” by paying their medical bills and property tax bills first before spending lavishly on personal vacations. A majority of local voters would “struggle” to afford ANY of the above listed vacation trips, especially when facing multiple medical bill lawsuits.

Finally, Is It True: That a candidate for office should be able to show a history of responsibility and accountability, both short term and long term, and multiple years of bills and lawsuits does not display a track record of the ethics required for becoming one of the three County Executive positions responsible for the governance and financial control of the third-largest County in Indiana, with a County budget of almost $100 million dollars.

        • Canthis…..this response to English Bob made me spit my coffee laughing out loud! Fantastic. It’s the kind of crap conversation that takes place the frenzied evening before voting. Seriousness coupled with jeers. Sorry….the differentiation could not be more clear. Funny, funny.

  12. Schmitt held a “new” conference? Who new? Friends of Winnecke sent out a Schmitt-gram yesterday.

  13. TIME TO VOTE:
The normally unflappable (because he is a steely eyed crazy man) Ted Cruz is totally unravelling.
Get this trash off the lawn!
Joe McCarthy drank himself to death at 48 yrs old after being exposed for trash.
I won’t be surprised to see that again.
General election time. Clinton VS Trump.
Matt Drudge has been waiting for this his whole life.

  14. Two very intelligent and capable women were profiled in today’s IS IT TRUE. Cheryl Musgrave is the best candidate for County Commissioner and Sue Ellsperman is an ideal candidate to lead IVY Tech. Best of luck to both of them.

  15. yy4u

We should address that “news” conference, where by all records available, the entire diatribe by Alex Schmitt was a complete fabrication. In other words, he lied to us all

Is It True: Alex is making an attempt to say Ms. Musgrave voted against the IU Medical School. Does the record support that?

Is It True: That on the first ERC meeting attended by Ms. Musgrave, she was appointed to the ERC on a Monday night by the City Council, and her first meeting as part of the ERC was the next morning on Tuesday at 8:30 AM. So her first meeting was barely 12 hours (1/2 day) later, which is hardly time to get the necessary documents reviewed.

Is It True: That TWO people were appointed to the ERC, Cheryl Musgrave and Mike Schopmeyer, a local attorney.

Is It True: That the minutes of the ERC meeting on January 6, 2015 shows the following:

“She is new and Mr. Shopmeyer is new and that she has a substantial number of questions regarding all the matters and some other items as well and requested that the resolutions be postponed until the next meeting to be given the opportunity to sit down with other commission members and relevant staff to have all questions addressed and be given the information she needs before moving forward”

Is It True: Randy Alsman, the Chairperson of the ERC “stated he thinks it is appropriate that Ms. Musgrave be informed and that since she was appointed last night at the City Council meeting, there has not been a lot of time to review and this goes to Mr. Shopmeyer also”

Is It True: That there were three IU Medical School “resolutions” that this pertained to, and the meeting was delayed ONE week until January 14, 2015

Is It True: That the three items were then voted on at the next meeting, and ALL three were approved by a unanimous vote of 4-0

Is It Therefore True: That the allegations by Alex Schmitt that Ms. Musgrave “voted against” or “voted to delay” the development of the IU Medical Center is NOT supported by the official minutes of the ERC?

    • I think we all would like more discussion and vetting of projects being pushed by the ERC/C of C. Unfortunately the ERC is nothing more than a conduit for taxpayer funding of Chamber projects, whether the projects have merit or not does not seem to matter to the ERC. What matters to them most is that the pipeline supplying the tax dollars continues to run with the spigot wide open.

Anyone who asks question will not remain on the commission very long, as the mayor has appointment powers that guarantee him a majority on the commission. I am sure that I do not have to remind anyone here that the Chamber of Commerce is the best funded and most powerful lobby in the state.

So the least one can do is to vet these projects. The fact that Cheryl was removed from the commission for asking questions that none of the other chair warmers on the commission would ask is reason enough for any intelligent individual to vote for her for County Commissioner.

They have taxed your homes to the hilt to pay for their “projects”, and the shift is now on full tilt to increase your local Income Tax for these projects. In fact they can not seem to sell a municipal bond here nowadays without pledging local income tax revenue as a backstop.

    • I thought the video was from California, it’s actually from Ft. Wayne. Scary the damage Obama has done to our Country in 8 years.

      • No, Joe, Obama didn’t turn those people into who they are in 8 years. He didn’t make the Trump-loving Cruz hecklers morons, either.

        • It makes perfect sense.
Trump has protesters, and it’s that damn Obama’s fault.
The City overpaid for the CVS property on Main, and it’s that damn Obama’s fault.
JoeBiden’s dentures hurt, and THAT is that damn Obama’s fault too.

I think JoeB is MORE resentful about Obama having a productive Presidency, than anything substantive he whines about. I mean, C’MON…..Trump has protesters, and it’s that damn Obama’s fault?

          • bin Laden thinks his demise is SEAL Team 6 and Obama’s fault also.

Some people’s opinions keep strange company….

          • @Regulator: Wow, I thought I was the only one who knew Hugo’s true identity! I think the perversion may be a by-product of his addiction problems.

          • Li’l Codpiece is legendary in the penguin world. They wouldn’t trade him for a new ice floe.
