Katterhenry Finished Second In Conference Championship
ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville junior Kayla Katterhenry earned another accolade as she was named to the 2016 MVC Women’s Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the league office today. A total of 16 student-athletes received recognition by earning either first-team or honorable-mention honors.
Golfer of the Year Danielle Lemek is one of four repeat first-team picks on the team, voted on by the league’s golf sports information directors. Those who earned first-team honors this year and last include Brooke Cusumano of Southern Illinois, Lemek, Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville, and Bryce Schroeder of Wichita State. Joining Glennie and those four on the first team are Meghan Jack of Wichita State, Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State and Kiley Walsh of Illinois State.
In addition to the eight first-team selections, eight student-athletes received honorable mention selection by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes. A total of 29 student-athletes were nominated for women’s golf scholar-athlete honors.
Notably, of the eight student-athletes on the first team, six also earned all-conference honors, including medalist Taryn Torgerson, runner-up finisher Kayla Katterhenry and third-place finisher Danielle Lemek.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team’s rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
