Matt Ruffing’s first signing as interim head coach for the University of Evansville women’s basketball team was a big one as he announced the addition of junior college All-American Brooke Dossett on Tuesday.

“We’re happy to welcome Brooke and her parents Nate and Karla to the Aces family,” Ruffing said. “She will bring outstanding character and competitive drive to our program, and I’m looking forward to her joining us in the summer.”

Dossett, who will be joining the Purple Aces out of nearby Vincennes University, played point guard for the Blazers and led the team to an impressive 29-6 record. The Warsaw, Ky., native and Gallatin County High School product averaged 12.5 points and three assists per game. The 5-foot-6 incoming junior shot 45% from the field and 40% from distance last season as the Blazers advanced to the NJCAA national tournament.

“When you’re looking at point guards, you look for leaders, and she helped lead Vincennes to the national tournament during a great sophomore year,” Ruffing explained. “With the graduation of Laura Friday, we were looking to bolster that position going into next season. She has a high basketball IQ, and she’s a talented scorer. She checks all the boxes that we are looking for in a point guard.”

Prior to Vincennes, Dossett was an impressive prep player for Gallatin County, playing on the varsity team for six years, culminating with a senior campaign where she averaged 18.7 points, 5.0 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

The 2016-17 UE women’s basketball season will begin in the fall.
