University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball junior forward Hannah Wascher (Rantoul, Illinois) recorded a double-double as the Screaming Eagles defeated visiting Alice Lloyd College, 82-45, in a rout Tuesday evening at the Physical Activities Center.
Wascher had a season-high 21 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks as USI rebounded from its only loss of the season.
USI (3-1) scored the final 12 points of the first period to build an 18-6 first quarter lead; then scored the first four points of the second quarter to go up 22-6.
Wascher scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes as USI led 37-20 at the intermission.
The Screaming Eagles used a 6-0 run that lasted a little more than a minute in the early stages of the third quarter to inflate their lead to 43-23. They ended the third period with a 15-0 run to build a commanding 58-27 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
In addition to Wascher, the Screaming Eagles got 13 points and seven rebounds from sophomore guard/forward Kaydie Grooms (Marshall, Illinois) as well as 12 points and three assists from junior guard Tanner Marcum (New Albany, Indiana).
Junior guard Kendyl Dearing (Huntingburg, Indiana) added 10 points and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Randa Harshbarger (Philo, Illinois) had 10 points, eight assists, and five steals.
USI dominated the paint throughout the contest as it out-rebounded Alice Lloyd, 45-30, and outscored the Eagles, 60-18, in the lane. The Screaming Eagles also had a 35-9 advantage in points off turnovers as well as a 21-2 edge in second-chance points.
The Screaming Eagles return to action Sunday at 2 p.m. when they welcome West Virginia State University to the PAC.
