UE Golf squads wrap up day one at Dayton

Eighteen more holes remain on Tuesday

 

KETTERING, Ohio – With one round down and one to go at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, the University of Evansville golf program has the men in a tie for sixth place while the women are in tenth at NCR Country Club in Ohio.

 

Both Wil Pahud and Kayla Katterhenry rank in the top ten for their respective squads.

 

Pahud finished Monday’s round with a 4-over 75 and is in a tie for seventh place.  He is just two shots out of second place and five behind leader Austin Winings of IUPUI.  Winings carded a 1-under 70 and leads the tournament by three strokes.

 

Next up for the Aces was sophomore Tyler Gray.  He posted a 78 in the opening round and is tied for 31st, but within striking distance to move significantly up the leaderboard.  One behind him is senior Rick Voyvodic.  His first round total of 79 had him in a tie for 43rd, but his score is just four outside of the top ten.

 

A crowded top of the list sees the duo of Joseph Addante and Will Knights just behind the rest of his teammates with rounds of 80.  Both are tied for 52nd overall.  Jon Pick is playing as an individual and finished the day with a score of 87.

 

Oakland finished Monday with a score of 303 and have a 4-shot lead heading into the final day.  IUPUI is second with a 307 while Cleveland State checks in with a 309.  Evansville ranks in a tie for 6th place with Valparaiso.

 

Katterhenry paced the women on the opening day, posting a 7-over 77.  Her efforts have her ranked in a tie for 9th place.  Six shots behind her was Giulia Mallmann.  The sophomore carded an 83 on Monday and ranks in a tie for 41st.

 

Maggie Camp and Maria Pickens each recorded rounds of 86 and are tied for 60th.  Madison Cheney rounded out the UE contingent on the first day, notching a round of 91.  Individuals Rachel Marchi and Carly Waggoner posted scores of 94.

 

Kasey Petty of Findlay sits atop the scoreboard with a 1-over 71.  She is one ahead of a second-place tie between Elle Nichols and Gabrielle Shipley.  On the team side, Grand Valley State is on top of Indianapolis by seven strokes.  Grand Valley State finished the first day with a 304.  Findlay is in third with a 312 while Oakland (316) and IUPUI (318) round out the top five.

 

Evansville is in 10th place with a 332.  They are two behind Central Michigan, who is ninth.

 

Tomorrow, both teams will play a final round of 18 holes at NCR Country Club.
