ANALYSIS: TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY OF BOOKKEEPING POSTING

11

According to the most recently published Financial statements as of June 30, 2015 by Evansville City Controller, Russ Lloyd  Jr shows he forgot to post the current $4 million dollar unpaid liability for outstanding Health Care cost reimbursements.  In essence, it  seems like the City  of Evansville hasn’t paid approximately $4 million dollars in health care bills for services provided to our City Employees so far this year.

We hope that at tonight’s City Council meeting, the more financially astute members of City Council will question City Controller Lloyd as to his strategy in effectively dealing with this alleged financial issue.

Its alleged that we presently have less $1 million dollars in our General Operating Fund.  If this is true, accounting 101 tells us that if one’s expenses exceed one’s income, and one’s debtors demand immediate payment for one’s outstanding obligations, then involuntary bankruptcy is imminent.

We hope that we are wrong about this issue and that the City Employees medical bills have been paid and this was just a bookkeeping mistake!

  1. Vague reporting. How does one show they “forgot to post something” on a published financial statement ? Did they include a footnote to say ” Hey, dude, forgot to post that health care noise !”. If they go to the trouble of footnoting the omission, why not just include the entry and be done with it ?

More details needed. Good questions for tonight: 1) are we current on paying Health Care reimbursements ? 2) If not, how much remains to be paid and what is the age of these obligations ?

  2. There should be an immediate freeze on any bonds issued that city taxpayers are liable for until a full accounting is made. That includes bonds for the hotel, North Main project, “Land Bank”, and The Downtown Med School. Spending more than can be repaid results in this sleight- of -hand bookkeeping, and bond re-payment is spending.

  3. It’s time for a federal investigation of the financial condition of Evansville. Mike Pence will cover for another Republican, so the feds need to do it.

  4. Just to reaffirm what a farce this local government is, even though the city is operating month to month on borrowed funds, and the last two SBOA audits were studies in prevarication, we all know when it comes time for them to put together a bond issue for the hotel or the med school the bond rating fairies will sprinkle a little fairy dust on the figures and voilà, a favorable rating will appear.

Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley exposed the farce of an audit, and the cronies used Channel 25 in their effort to shut her up. Cheryl Musgrave has been asking some questions about projects the Evansville Redevelopment Commission is proposing, as opposed to the usual rubber stamping without any discussion, and the cronies have again used the local media prostitutes to do their bidding.

The longer we wait in exposing the REAL problem with Evansville, the longer it is going to take to pick up all the pieces left by its demise and to put a real honest and responsive government back together that SERVES the people so our children and grandchildren do not have to live under this band of greedy fools who operate from the shadows.

First step: abolish the Evansville Redevelopment Commission NOW, TODAY, THIS INSTANT!

  5. These things are hardly remarkable anymore. They should be but we’ve become inured to just this sort financial malfeasance. I don’t blame Russ Lloyd. If these kinds of financial machinations are OK with you, just vote for him again. While you’re at it vote for his handpicked council slate too. A second Winnecke administration would be a time of industrial shredding, mindless property churning and save-your-own-ass scampering.

When his house of cards finally tumbles the mayor will say he was too busy trying to move the city forward to pay much attention to financial details. I think the deniability program is already being run. They keep the poor guy under wraps until it’s shovel time then they shine him up, put him in his Hollywood sunglasses and send him out to the dirt pile on a short leash.

    • The real mayor of Evansville, Carol McClintock, will be free and clear in all of this. She’s calling the shots, pulling the strings, reaping the rewards, and will walk away scot-free if Evansville ever gets justice.

      • She is not in the loop of the power players who run this city. They may currently be using her, like they use everyone else, but when she is no longer useful they will stop answering her calls. Politicians come and politicians go in this city, but the turnover in the real power structure is nonexistent by comparison.

  6. $ 4 Million ? That is less than Rusty’s previous plug entries, I think he can swallow this $ 4 Million with ease !

    • Yes, $ 29 Million plug (cash balance writedown) shown in the 2012 Audit. This $ 4 Million undocumented adjustment PALES in comparison !
