IS IT TRUE that EVSC Superintendent of Schools is giving the impression that local Teamsters local 215 is off base for trying to engage in Collective Bargaining discussions with school board members?
IS IT TRUE if Dr Smith doesn’t watch out he could turn what should be a simple labor negotiations issue into a battle between the “haves” verses the “have nots”?
IS IT TRUE EVSC SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT is one of the faithful readers of the CCO? … …members of his staff and the School Board also read the CCO?
IS IT TRUE the School Board hired Dr. David Smith to be EVSC Superintendent of Schools? Â . …this makes Dr. Smith the employee of the School Board? …the above action makes the School Board the employer of Dr. Smith? …we wonder why EVSC employee Dr. David Smith can make long and rumbling speeches on how honest and forthright he’s been throughout the entire negotiations process with local TEAMSTERS 215 while his bosses (elected School Board members) sit like puppets and starring out into space?
IS IT TRUE we wonder how many School Board members have family members employed by EVSC? …we wonder how many family members of EVSC top Administrators are employed by the school system? …we wonder how many EVSC top Administrators family members have service contracts with the system? …we can’t wait for our readers to give their answers to these questions in today’s CCO?
IS IT TRUE if the newly elected School Board and their hired help are doing such a great job why are our elementary schools located in the Center City continue to record failing grades?
IS IT TRUE that Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver were the only members of the City Council invited to review the Downtown Hotel plans?  After their endorsement by Republican County Chairman Wayne Parke is it any surprise they were given this private viewing? Isn’t it strange the Council President and Finance Chairman were not invited?
IS IT TRUE that 2nd Ward Council Member Missy Mosby was on the telephone calling Council members asking for their help in supporting a special appropriation by DMD for special funding for the Vann Avenue Park?  …looks like we may have another political “Pork Barrel” deal in the making?…it looks like its time for the taxpayers to call for a State and Federal compliance audit of DMD?
IS IT TRUE that US Congressman Larry Bushon is sponsoring a fund raiser for 3rd Ward GOP Council Candidate? Â … when have you ever heard of a US Congressman holding a fund raiser for a City Council candidate?
Please take time and vote in today’s “Readers Poll”. Also we just posted the current City County Observer TRI-STATE VOICES TV show for you’re viewing pleasure. Don’t miss reading today’s Feature article because it’s always an interesting read. New addition to the CCO is the Cause of Death report generated by the Vanderburgh County Health Department. An amazing representative. How Bucshon finds the time to help someone like that is beyond me.

Never complain when 6our government does nothing… Will Rogers
Think we could crank up the ole Ho for a primary? At least he stood for somehting even if it was just his religion. Bucshon is a stooge, maybe the worst yet. Way too doughie too.
Actually saw John at Rural King a few weeks ago. That’s how common he is. Your name didn’t come up. 🙂
I go there for the free popcorn and to buy bullets.
Congressman Bucshon is a great representative for our District.
You forgot to capitalize great Joe?
And since we are dealing with a doctor, I’d like a second opinion….
Yes indeed. He represents the gun nuts, the homophobes, the xenophobes, the religious zealots, the anti-intellectuals, the RTL control freaks, the climate change deniers, the creationists, the coal polluters, and the 1% er’s very, very well.
Overgeneralize much? I guess you hit most of the lib talking points in your little spiel.
Typical liberal name-calling nonsense.
“Get in my belly” the sicko “doc denier” from Indiana , rants, and then his minions chime in as well. Load’O baby eat’in SOB’s, every damned one of them.
So, then, how did he get elected if he didn’t represent the thoughts of the majority? Last time I looked it was recipient of the majority of the votes cast that was elected. Sounds like you’re just p.o.’d that your candidate and his ideals/ideas didn’t meet the requirements of the majority.
Like I said he represents this intellectual and cultural backwater very well.
You’re Exhibit A
Representation is not just for the cool and enlightened. The unemployed, the criminals, the single noms with multiple kids by many fathers that won’t provide for their children. Those that pay the lions share of the bills should have representation too. Many of us are the salt if the earth and we reflect light from above….I’m not talking about Christians. Many Christians give Christ a bad name. I’m talking about believers and no weapon formed against us will prosper, in Jesus’ name. lit out ytle Israel should give you some idea of God’s powers. They are surrounded by their enemies and yet the are because he is the Great I Am
What all EVSC employees (including EVSC administrators and teachers) must understand is that they are state employees whose salary is subject to the availability of state/tax monies. If those monies are not there, they should not automatically expect taxes to be raised to provide them a raise. If they truly believe that their skill set is worth more monies, then they should seek employment in the private sector. I believe that some would succeed in the private sector, but most would fail or not even try as they have lived in a protected job environment far too long.
Kinda reminds us of Career Politicians who believe in entitlements . . . their entitlement to their particular office . .leads you to wonder when old Red Mosby passed if his will included who would get the 6th Ward Council seat . .
That’s all the School Board is….Puppets. NONE of them seem to have a spine or the ability to stand up for anything.
It would be much more cost effective to replace the board members with this:
https://maggiemcneill.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/rubber-stamp.jpg?w=500
and the results would be identical.
Surprised Bucshon is able to get permission to be off the leash,–from his “Owner”–Speaker Boehner.
Don’t even get me started on the democrats rank and file z not to mention the media being in the bag for obama
Wow . . .off in the distance . . don’t you see ’em . . .What? . .it’s the Four Horsemen of the Apocalyptic heading up Walnut Street, of course they don’t need to stop by the CP . . .
Does anyone know who the Teamsters are backing for Mayor?
Joe. Nope. But I do know who they’ll be supporting nationally for president.
The democrat, of course.
Look up the history of the Teamsters, you presumptive nitwit.
As a corporation, your local EVSC, since the advent of standardized testing of students, has not been able to meet even the State Average Test Scores for any of the subject matter for which they test.
With that record in mind, one wonders why EVSC would have just launched a distance learning initiative, hosted by its Virtual Academy, that is making itself available to prospective students throughout the state of Indiana? I would think that EVSC’s concentration would be focused like a laser on its primary raison d’être, which is improving the educational experience and academic results of the students of the local taxpayers who pay the bills that EVSC creates.
The EVSC Supt. should be looked at a little closer 1 four star school (Scott congrats) many failing alot of this could be due to moral of staff that the Staten him and his board oversee. The Board is nothing but a bunch of Bobble Heads for Supt.Smith more worried about their 7-0 vote than what is good for the EVSC children and families. I’ve been attending EVSC Board meetings for 20yrs never a vote different than 7-0. The thing I have seen in any way that one would differ himself from the others is Mr. Gamblin when at the end of the last 2 meeting stated the need to get back to the table. And last the Boards silence to is deplorable to the electors of this County.
You know if Doc Dave and Bobble Head Board would put their differences with Local 215 behind them and get a CBA with the EVSC Employees instead trying Bust their Employees chosen Union. You reckon they might be able to work a little more on bringing up school grades and getting a few more Four Star Schools. We know Duckworth and Niedig both have family working for School Board because both had childern receive Teamster Scholarship money’s from Local 215 (money that does not come from dues) A program that Local 215 is very proud for its members.
The Teamsters will back the mayor you have now. Mayor Winkie and Whobrey are friends.Last night on tv 11 they were talking about all of the money and where it is being taken from that hotel they want. Looks like it will be way more than they say. Winkie and his gang are pulling another fast one. I just came back from a trip to a city less than half that of Evansville and their downtown is being built with a new Marriott hotel with the hotels money not the taxpayers.Which bank is funding our Winkie Motel because I will make sure I take money out? If this is such a gret thing why are there no hotels chumping at the bit to get in this action?
Down The Up Escalator: How the 99% live in the Great Recession……..by Barbara Garson (review)
[“But this is a book that’s more about personal stories and analysis than a recitation of numbers. Consider this exchange between Garson and one of her interview subjects:
–“‘What am I looking at here in Evansville?’ I asked the lean fifty-year-old [Charles Whobrey, president of the local Teamster union] as he led us into his cubbyhole of an office. ‘How could a town have gotten this depressed since Lehman Brothers collapsed?’
”You’re not looking at the effects of just this recession,’ he asserted. ‘So many people here survive paycheck to paycheck, obviously living beyond their means, that when something like this hits…well, let me go back.
‘I started working for the union in 1981…I started in March, and not a month later President Reagan fired the air traffic controllers. Permanently fired the strikers. That doesn’t happen much in American history. Killing PATCO [the air traffic controllers’ union] sent the signal to business–as it was supposed to–that it was okay to get rid of the unions. ‘Uh-oh,’ I said, ‘I have the knack for gettin’ involved right when the wheel’s going into the mud.'”]
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The ONLY time that the air traffic in this country was completely shut down was on 9-11-2001. I was not then, and am not now, in favor of a small labor union shutting down the air traffic in this country. It is simply to vital to the economy, and to the lives of the citizens of this country.
As for Charlies comment on local people “living beyond their means” business and the government seem to be doing all they can to encourage that behavior. That is why sage investors like Warren Buffet were caught with such large positions in credit card companies when the “great Recession” hit. He lost a poop load, but I am sure he has made it back, and more, by now.
Public sector unions are ripe for abuse.
What makes Missy Mosby’s parks so special??? We’ve got some on the other side of town that needs work!!!
I think that it is interesting that Joe Neidig, owner of Tri-State Community Clinics is the brother of Paul Neidig, chief of staff at the EVSC. I would think that this is a HUGE conflict of interest.
I thought Rudy Montejano was Chief-of-Staff. Does EVSC currently have two Chiefs-of-Staff?
On the non-teacher side (management) EVSC seems to have two or more of everything. Lot’s of positions that cause you to scratch your head and wonder what they actually are there for.
Yes indeed ! It is very sad if not just plain shameful, that EVSC Board President Mike Duckworth and Paul Neidig are working so hard to ensure that no furure EVSC families will have the opportunity to receive the thousands of dollars in scholarships that their children got because their wives are Teamsters! I believe 54 EVSC familes received Teamsters 215 Scholarships this year! I don’t know how these folks can look themselves in the mirror each morning. How quickly they forget how generous the Teamsters were to their kids!
Mr. Montejano was barred from the building sometime around the first part of April. He was paid his salary of $120,000 through the end of June. Mr. Neidig was appointed Chief of Staff effective March 1, 2015.
Strange, I did not read a thing about Mr. Montejano’s departure in the local broadsheet. Are they flying this one under the radAR FOR A REASON?
Is it true that EVSC employee Rick Cameron received a mid-year raise of $17,000? At the May 4, 2015 school board meeting his title was changed from “Chief Operations Officer” to “Senior Chief of District Operations” and his salary was raised from approximately $100,000 to $117,000 retroactive to March 1, 2015.
EVSC teamster negotiations
Here we go again, a repeat of 2 years ago. The Superintendent and certain board members are trying again to bust the teamsters local 215. Two years ago it was an overwhelming vote by the teamster employes to continue to be represented by the union. So this time around 2 provisions were signaled out, closed shop, and binding arbitration. These 2 contract provisions were no issue for the 35 years I was involved in negotiations. I only remember 2 or 3 cases that went to arbitration. As for closed shop I remember only 2 or 3 times that a teamster employee wanted to stop paying dues. They did so and it was never challenged. Your time and effort would be better spent in education of children, and from time to time recognizing and appreciating the maintenance crew that worked all night to keep a school from closing. The bus driver that greats the kids with a smile and gets them home safely. The cafeteria worker that makes sure a student is not turned away when their account is in the red. The secretary that takes the first call of a problem and a lot of the time resolves the issue before its passed on to the administrator. These are the things that are important, not trying to bust the union over non issue provisions of the contract.
Gary Staley
Former EVSC administrator and negotiator
Gary Staley
In my earlier comments on EVSC teamster negotiations I forgot to mention the custodians. Its common for a head custodian and custodians to say ”my school” They are proud of the job they do and thing of the school as mine to take care of. Clean up a students vomit and you will have a better understanding.
I knew a Gary Staley once but don’t know where he worked.
A very impressive (and honest) individual.
Seems like it had something to do with West Terrace Elementary and tee ball or ball fields or something but been so long ago can’t remember.
Oh well…..
Whole bunch of strange going on down there especially if they can not figure out they are his boss they used to prior to the last two yrs. When he gets some of them unelected they will figure it out again. Bargin in good faith get rid of the outside attorney do like you use to this is not working.
