“Choose Your Ride” Vehicles Unveiled Today

The Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office want you to choose your ride carefully if you have been drinking. Both agencies unveiled their new “Choose Your Ride” vehicles at a press conference today.

With the front of each vehicle marked as a police cruiser and the rear of each vehicle marked as a taxi cab, the cars provide a not so subtle message concerning the repercussions of drunk driving.

Sheriff Dave Wedding stated, “Our office is always looking for creative ways to convince people not to drink and drive. Chief Bolin organized this project and partnered with the Sheriff’s Office, Working Distributors, the Logan’s Promise organization and our local taxi services.” Sheriff Wedding added, “We hope to encourage people to make responsible choices that prevent the tragic loss of life on our roadways.”

The vehicles are for display only and will not be used to transport the general public. The vehicles will be exhibited at events around the city, including the upcoming 2015 Shriners Fest.

  1. Would it not be cheaper just to call a regular taxi? Thirty dollars a pop for a ride home seems rather stiff to me. Who gets this fee and how does this so called “voucher” work?
