Archaeologist Ben Thomas will travel to the University of Evansville next week to present “Caves, Chocolate, and Christianity: Mayan Archaeology in Belize,” based on his field experience in Central American jungles and swamps.

Thomas will speak at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23 in Smythe Lecture Hall (Room 170), Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building. His free, public presentation is sponsored by UE’s Department of Archaeology and Art History.

Thomas holds a PhD in Mesoamerican archaeology from Boston University — a degree he received after several years of fieldwork in Belize and Guatemala. Currently, he is the director of programs for the Archaeological Institute of America and an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he teaches archaeology courses in the liberal arts program.
