IS IT TRUE? January 10, 2012

IS IT TRUE that last night saw a well attended union rally in Warrick County out across from the Alcoa complex?…that while there were plenty of people from Vanderburgh County and Evansville who attended the rally, there were no Democrat members of the Evansville City Council or Chairman Mark Owen of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party in attendance?…that as Vanderburgh County and Evansville represent the place of residence for many of the Alcoa workers it is surprising that none of their elected officials or party membership found time to attend this rally?

IS IT TRUE it is about time that the Evansville Housing Authority makes a decision concerning developing the vacant Erie property located on Governor and Lincoln in the core of Evansville’s Center City?…that this development should be the first “Front Door” project under the new Mayor?…that building many affordable quality single family homes in the $70,000 to the $80,000 range on this approx. 7 acres would be a masterful “Good Public Policy” move?…that we also suggest that the powers that be seek the wisdom and advice of the Rev. Adrian Brooks whom has developed numerous successful housing projects in the Center City?

IS IT TRUE that we are hearing the former City of Evansville Chief of Staff of the Office of the Mayor is now in the employment the new city Administration?…that we hear that Rose Young has already has been extremely helpful to Mayor Winnecke and his staff?…that we feel that Rose Young needs to do her work without being under the radar but openly conduct her business for good of the people she serves?… that Mrs. Young did an outstanding job serving her old boss but we know she shall do similar under her new one?…the CCO staff and supporters are glad that Rose Young has decided to stay in the City of Evansville employment?

IS IT TRUE that the Alabama Crimson Tide put on a magnificent clinic of how to play college football in defeating the LSU Tigers 21 – 0?…that Alabama had only one penalty in the entire game and that came with less than 5 minutes to go?…that for those readers who do not know, the Alabama fans have a taunting chant at the end of every victory that gets them into trouble on occasion for being unsportsmanlike?…that last night they Alabama victory chant was yelled out four times?…that the chant goes something like this, “Hey Tigers!, Hey Tigers!, We just beat the hell out of you, rammer jammer yellow hammer give em hell Alabama”?…that here is a sample of that taunt at the Texas Longhorns in 2010?

IS IT TRUE that it would truly be a pleasure if the City of Evansville had a Division I NCAA football team for locals to enjoy?…that the closest team to Evansville continues to be the University of Louisville Cardinals whose freshman quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was just named to the top 10 watch list for the 2012 Heisman Trophy by CBS Sports?…that such things seldom come along but that this is the third time in 7 years that a UL quarterback has made that list but the first time ever for a freshman quarterback from any school?…that there was a time in the 1940’s when the UE Football Aces defeated the UL Cardinals?…that we wonder what could have been if the effort would have been made to keep college football in Evansville?

  1. Yes, it IS surprising that the Democrat members of the Evansville City Council or Chairman Mark Owen of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party, … skipped this most important meeting, about the Most important issue facing Indiana Union bosses and their memberships. (RTW)
Were they asleep at the wheel, or riding the wake of recent electoral victories?
Politics 101: Don’t bite the hand that feeds you; lick it!

Let’s Do encourage EHA to make the best of the opportunities that present themselves along the way. The vacant Erie property located on Governor and Lincoln is j ONE of them.

Rose Young? … New faces, new policies and attitudes are nice; continuity and efficiency are more nice.

Tide vs Tigers? There’s no denying the right to celebrate victory, but, taunting is classless and unacceptable. “Boo” to Bama.”

    College football in Evansville?
“Gone with the wind” and the “Good 5₵ Cigar.” …

    • The first City Council Meeting of the term was last night, and it began at 5:30 pm. The rally at ALCOA began at 4:30 and lasted, I’m told until 6:30 pm. The City Council meeting ended at 6:10 pm. I am adamantly opposed to eliminating the Union Security Clause from collective bargaining agreements. I went to Indianapolis with the Sheet Metal Workers for the first day of the legislative session. However, I can’t be two places at once. It is absolutely ridiculous that Joe Wallace, who allegedly has his finger on the pulse of the City, doesn’t know the City Council meeting schedule. It was probably posted on this site.

      • Stephanie, we are all for giving the council members a pass on this one. We know you had other committments. Where were you Sunday? And where was Mark Owen either day?

        • I don’t know who you are Henry, but perhaps you don’t know what I look like. I was at the Right to Work hearing on Sunday, along with my husband and two of my kids.

          • I know what you look like and probably just missed you. I know that Gail recognized all the office holders and candidates and I didn’t hear your name mentioned. If you were there then I give you full credit

    chew dabacker, chew dabacker

    spit on da wall

    come on Bama

    we’s for y’all

  3. the meeting was not only well attended by Alcoa employees, but Vectren employees and all of the area building trades. It was an open meeting and everyone was invited to attend, reguardless of affiliation, or lack there of. Most of Local 104’s PAC meetings are. Several candidates attended and John Gregg made a great speech. It’s a shame that Evansville office holders didn’t take the time to attend this function. They also missed some great Bar B Que

  4. Didn’t City Council have a meeting last night. What time did the Alcoa event start? Were any elected officals from Vanderburgh Co at the event? Lets hope so.

  5. Just add this to the VERY LONG LIST of reasons why Owen should NOT be the Demo party chair. Where was he? Absolutely pathetic.
Anthony Long, are you paying attention?

At least Weinzapfel was there for a short while, but didn’t stick around. Since he wasn’t on stage, I’m sure he didn’t want to stay. That ego is way too big to simply be a peon in the audience.

  6. There was a City Council meeting last night which lasted from 5:30 til 6:30. It was an organizational meeting.

  7. Regarding the union rally last evening, indeed the Evansville City Council also had a meeting last night, but I am sure to some pundits it is NOT acceptable to be at two places at once.

  8. The closest NCAA Div 1 FB Team would be Western Ky or Indiana State (maybe Southern IL?). Louisville is ~20 miles further even when the bridge isn’t broken.

    • Papa Johns Stadium is 100 minutes from Evansville as is Bowling Green, KY. ISU and SIU play in the college division.

  9. Could the reason be that no city council members were at the rally is that they were at a city council meeting? Is it true?
