I am one week late in posting. Last Sunday (5/24), front page article in Courier about the experiences of KC and the Sunshine Band and some city councilmen who went to Detroit to attend a seminar on Land Banks and dealing with urban blight.
Apparently the lady who currently heads up the local Land Bank is going to write a proposal this Summer re: the prospect of expanding the Land Bank here in a big way. Gosh, that will surely be unbiased !
Detroit got a big injection from the fed government, plus a big grant from the Kresge Foundation. So before even seeing the proposal:
1) How will Evansville fund this Land Bank ? You still have to tear down a percentage of the homes which are beyond repair. Where’s the funding ?
2) I like the idea of “escrow deeds” for those properties which are suitable for rehab–the home is provided to a potential owner, who fixes it up and pays property taxes for 5 years; and then the property reverts fully to the party who fixed it up. What happens if they only make it for 3 years and decide to move/ does that person walk away with nothing ?
3) Can politics be left out of this ? Sure doesn’t sound like it, KC drooling over this program. The bar is low, since the tortured program of tax sales, buying uninhabitable houses for $ 1, etc. needs to be shot squarely between the eyes, but we’ll have to see. I am at least glad that options to the status quo are being considered.
John Kerry broke his leg while bicycling yesterday. He has already filled out the request form for another Purple Heart. And, if you didn’t know, Kerry served in Viet Nam.
Is it true we are not alone on this planet? Mankind needs to get it together “sooner the better.”
What it must be like to achieve flight in both realms of the planets balance. Those critters fly the oceans, and then breach and take in some flight time in the atmospheric. Beautiful stuff, the capture on video is great, the music as well. Creation and natural selection are really one, why we dare to challenge that is… well a dilemma one has to suppose.
The dolphin that does the nine point roll is my personal favorite. Think about that maneuver and within the time it was offered by its basically generated species normal
on board thrust. Oh my goodness even those seals and the under water chandelles so perfectly executed.
And mankind dares to think they and the birds are the only ones on earth
that can fly. 73% of the surface of the planet is water, and now thanks to the changing climate that is increasing as well.
We need to absorb the realities and change. The music is ours but I wouldn’t be astounded if someday we learn those fellow Earthlings of both surface realms didn’t perform their own ” Symphonie fantastique ” every hour of the day while living in their biosphere that includes the air and the water.
Sure looks like they’re having a blast while moving forward.
