IN RESPONSE TO: Davis and Winnecke Trash “The Machine”

“Davis simply needs to point out the following, which will be a bit easier after Oct. 21:
1) Winnecke has the same donors as Weinzapfel
2) The Dem machine is suppporting Winnecke
3) Winnecke said that if Weinzapfel were running again, he wouldn’t enter the race because “he agrees with Weinzapfel’s agenda”

It’s clear who the Machine candidate is.” Vonkayel

“Rick Davis could not win the Dem. primary without fracturing the Dem. party. He started this four years ago, at that time to prepare for Dan Adams to run against Jonathan Weinzapfel. … Yes, he was able to dismantle the Mosby machine in Perry Township, but his only inroad into the Mosbys on the Eastside has been D-d-d-d-d-donny. Big deal.” Veracity

“It makes no difference to the machine politics if you are a republican or a democrat the machine has and always will cross party line for the good of the old boys club’s benefit, power hungry control freaks don’t have a political badge that is of a certain color or affiliation, the old boys club transcends well beyond party boundaries, that’s it’s strength and power base.” Blanger

“He failed to understand that there are two separate political entities involved in the process. If you doubt that I am right, just ask all the citizens living in unincorporated Vanderburgh county to show up at the polling station to vote in the city election and see if they are allowed to vote! It is another case of Weinzapfel instructing Winnecke on what he was to do. The puppet and his master.” Pressanykey

“Please Define who are the good ole boys. You throw this around but fail to say who belongs. Our inquiring minds want to know.” Auchilles

“Here’s how I would lay it out:
The Powers: These are the people who actually control what happens in Evansville political and economic life. They tend to remain behind the scenes, acting through proxies or managers (see below).
Bob Koch
Neil Ellerbrook/Vectren
Bob Jones/ONB
Andy Goebel
Jack McNeely
Alan Braun
Englebrecht (questionable)

The Managers: These are the Apparatchiks, the ones who see to it that the agenda of the Powers actually gets done, by any means necessary. They don’t generally control the money or overall strategy, but they are the ones who do tactical planning, the intimidation, and the political maneuvering needed to implement the strategy.

The Sock Puppets: These are the public officials who take their orders from the managers. They cast the votes, talk to the media, and generally are the “face” of the machine.

  1. Is it true Bill Kramer, Republican candidate for City Council At-Large, was found to have tampered with his Vectren electric meter to save a few bucks, but was successfully sued by Vectren for hundreds of dollars. Could court records be accurate. That’s what it appears.

  2. Vonkayel has named every living politician in Evansville, or at least more than 90 percent of them. He also fingered an utility firm executive so physically feeble that he can barely pump his own gas (I have witnessed him doing so). Vonkayel, if you really dislike that many people I suggest that you move out of Vanderburgh County so as to salvage whatever sanity you haven’t already lost.

    • My impression is that Vonkayel has been out of town so long that he has no true grasp of the who’s who and who can do’s of local politics. As a result he lowers himself to the status of name dropper.

      • The fact that the two of you are yelping and whining about the list is further evidence of its accuracy.

There are plenty of politicians/players who are not named because they are not part of the Machine:

        Rick Davis (D)
        Phil Hoy (D)
        Betty Knight Smith (D)
        Dan Adams (D)
        Nick Hermann (R)
        Cheryl Musgrave (R)
        Marsha Abell (R)
        Larry Buschon (R)
        Jim Tomes (R)
        Gail Riecken (D)
        Frank Peterlin (R)
        Wendy Bredhold (D)
        Steve Melcher (D)

        • Who’s whining or yelping. I simply think you’re a bit out of touch with local politics. You latest list proves it further. For example, Peterlin’s not a politician, and Melcher and Hermann have been county chairmen. By the way, political machines have many gears and cogs. You just don’t seem to know how it all fits together.

          • Re: Peterlin not a politician.

            That’s why I said “politicians/players.”

I’m sure I don’t know how it all fits together. That’s sort of in the nature of Machines, isn’t it? They are black boxes. If you’re not part of it, it’s damned near impossible to unravel all of the connections.

Why don’t you enligthen us from the inside?

          • Being a county chairman does not necessarily make you part of the Machine.

Take Melcher for instance. Or Hermann on the GOP side. Or the current guy they have, Parke.

          • Why don’t you elaborate. You just continue to name drop, or compile lists. BFD. A high school sophomore can compile lists of names and append political party designations to them. Give us some meat, man.

        • Yawn. Sorry, not interested in bandying with someone who is clearly part of the problem in Evansville.

The lists speak for themselves. Glad that there is a place like the CCO where they can be published and archived.
