Parking Expansion Notice

  1. Good deal. That takes it up to about 1,244 spaces total for that one large lot.

Looked at it another way, 250 new spaces just about replaces half of those lost by construction of the Centre and the Arena, each of which covers previous municipally owned parking lots.

    • You must have an excellent memory. The Centre location has not been available as a parking lot for 30 years or more

      • When it was the Vanderburgh County Auditorium, there was a small lot on the east side of the building with about 250 parking spots used by municipal employees during the day. That was covered over by the Centre whenever it was built, and those spots never were replaced elsewhere. The Arena also covered about the same amount of public owned parking spaces in the northwest corner of Locust and MLK. Municipal expansion of buildings consistently displaces parking without mitigating the loss somewhere else. So, it’s nice to see additional parking expanded in the Back 40 now. David Rector, the Building Authority chief, has done much more than anyone else ever has before to increase parking around the Civic Center, and deserves the credit.

  2. Sadly, people do still write memos. And certain people don’t send out memos such as this one until 4PM the Friday before they start the closing of the lot.
