Stanford breaks 800m record

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—

      • University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field junior

Isaac Stanford set a school record in the 800 meters to lead the Screaming Eagles at the Eastern Indoors Friday.

Stanford finished third in the event with a time of one minute, 53.05 seconds, while sophomore Cole Hess, who set the previous mark (1:53.17) last year, was fourth with a time of 1:53.75.

In addition to the 800 meters, the Eagles turned out a dominating performance in the 3,000 meters as they represented eight of the first nine to cross the finish line. Freshmen Jadon Muncy and James Haggerty were first and second, respectively, while junior Dylan Bland and freshmen Kyle Kern and Zach Wells finished third, fourth and fifth.

On the day, USI competed in just two events but racked up eight top-five finishes and 10 top-10 performances.

Stanford’s performance in the 800 meters currently ranks fifth in the OVC, while Hess moved up to ninth. Freshman Griffen Wheeler, who was seventh in the 800 meters, moved up to 13th in the conference with his time of 1:55.36.

USI is scheduled to close out the regular-season with the David Hemery Valentine Invitational February 14-15 in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Blue-White Classic February 15 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
