The 2024 legislative session has come to a close. Here are some bills I have authored or supported this year.
- Senate Enrolled Act 2 would roll out new policies to help more people become child care workers and cut certain regulations that drive up the cost of operating a child care facility. SEA 2 passed the General Assembly and heads to the governor’s desk for consideration.
- Senate Enrolled Act 23, which I authored, would state that a person who recklessly, knowingly or intentionally damages a component of an automatic building fire suppression system that is located in a penal facility commits criminal mischief, a Level 6 felony. SEA 23 passed the General Assembly and heads to the governor’s desk for further consideration.
- Senate Enrolled Act 260, which I authored, would help better administer the Individual Development Account program (IDA). SEA 260 would make changes to existing laws concerning the program. IDAs are a state-matched savings incentive through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority designed to assist lower income individuals and families reduce poverty, build personal financial skills and ultimately attain self-sufficiency. SEA 260 passed the General Assembly and heads to the governor for further consideration.
- House Enrolled Act 1004 would provide a 1% annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for many public retirees who retire after July 1, 2025, and a 13th check for those who retire before that date. It would also allow a 13th check to be provided to public retirees in 2024. Public retirees like state police officers, teachers and retired state employees who have dedicated their lives and careers to public service would benefit from this bill. HEA 1004 passed the General Assembly and heads to the governor for further consideration.
