University of Southern Indiana Men’s Golf senior Preston Van Winkle (Santa Claus, Indiana) has been named to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV At-Large team in a vote by the NCAA Division II sports information directors in the Midwest Region.
A three-time Academic All-GLVC honoree, Van Winkle becomes the first-ever USI Men’s Golfer to earn Academic All-District honors and advances to the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Sports in the at-large program consist of bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis, men’s volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
Van Winkle, who compiled a 3.565 GPA in sports management, earned All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors for the first time in his career after tying for fourth at the GLVC Championships with a five-over par 221. He shot a two-under 70 in the final round of the tournament, which tied for his season-low round.
On the year, Van Winkle averaged a career and team-best 75.88 strokes per round. He also had his career-best finish this season, tying for first at the UIS Spring Invitational, which also earned him GLVC Golfer of the Week accolades.
