WHATS ON YOUR MIND TODAY?
We hope that today’s “Readers Forumâ€Â will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
Todays “Readers Poll” question†Is:  Do you feel that legislation needs to be passed to ban “bump stocks,†that converts semiautomatic guns into automatic weapons?

Time to ban “bump stocks”? Why?
Well, if you’re simply consumed with hatred for all things Trump/Republican and the NRA, maybe. If you sincerely desire to prevent mass shootings from happening again the ban would have no more effect than another law against murder.
“What we need instead is a cool-headed and sober analysis to find out why so many people, in the prime of life, in the wealthiest and most prosperous society in history, are willing to casually murder scores of strangers – and usually kill themselves in the process.”

Here is the liberal position: they would rather advance their liberal political agenda rather than protecting students. Any word on the EVSC position?? [crickets chirping].
……………………
“Lawmakers fear arming school staff could harm black and Hispanic students”
“NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson called the idea of arming teachers “irresponsible.” He said he hoped the governor would be more responsible than lawmakers who voted in favor of SB 2076.”

You just can’ make up the illogical political arguments that the left-wing liberal kooks spout against the common sense approach of protecting students with trained volunteers with access to a concealed gun safe:
……………………………
“There are many reasons to be against President Wayne LaPierre Donald Trump’s idea to arm teachers in public schools. It’s dangerous. It’s expensive. It changes the core competency of “teaching.†And, you know, it’s not actually going to deter mass shooters.
But there’s one more problem that I’m sure most white people haven’t thought about yet: arming American teachers will directly result in students of color being shot to death at school.
I know that because the only other group of public employees that is armed at the behest of the state shoots unarmed people of color on the reg. The cops actually receive extensive training on how to use their firearms, how to assess threats, and how to deescalate situations, and yet they still murder innocent civilians all the time.
Giving a teacher a gun is ASKING them to be afraid. It makes poor judgment a homicidal offense. And that danger will be borne by black and brown students.”…..
“America is entirely too racist to arm teachers. Our legal system is INCAPABLE of holding public employees to account for murdering minorities. Black and brown students should not have to die because disgruntled white boys are shooting up their schools.”

Now comes Warrick County School Superintendent Brad Schneider to announce that Castle High students will be participating in a March 14 walkout to protest gun violence. He says that it will be used as a learning experience.
Quotes from a student member of the organizing group, in today’s Warrick County Standard, indicate they have already learned we need to pass gun laws to prevent more school shootings.Real learning might be possible if someone were there to inform students that it is, and has been since before they were born, already against the law to bring a gun to within 1000 feet of school property. And it is, and has been since before they were born, already illegal to kill anyone anywhere, including at school.
However well intentioned , jumping on the political bandwagon of gun control only stymies meaningful, immediate, actions that could be taken to prevent another attack.
It’s just Castle, they tend to be a little full of themselves. I doubt that those sentiments exist at Boonville or Tecumseh.
Agreed about Castle. Hope you’re right about the others.
DannCoulter, +1. Could not agree more with the institutional brainwashing at public schools. Sad that school safety gets thrown under the bus so they can have little orchestrated protests the liberal media will cover ad nauseum. I expect the Evansville schools will quickly follow the lead so they can get in on the adoring media expose for their own orchestrated protests.
Joe and Dan, every damn person who reads your daily crap about guns knows you are only giving gun lecture blowj-bs because you are scared to discuss anything else President Trump.
I mean, I gotta give Dan Coulter a little bit of credit for his writing he’s suppports the pro-union tax steel and aluminum tariffs (gotta support those Dem-Liberal causes Dann!!), but even ole Dann is afraid to discuss anything other than guns.
Our GOP Senate Leader, Mitch McConnell and his partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce, is saving our economy, and handles the whore-paying Trump like the child he is.
You thin-skinned scared guys? Keep up the gun blowj-b lectures.
Ole Dann is afraid of nothing, ole Dan. He’d like nothing better than have a debate about Trump with a dem who has even a smattering of useful information. Know where he can find one?
Here’s one.
You start off Trumpling….
I would like to make a comment about the Douglas Kemp shooting videos.
The gun held up by Jason Cullum in the press conference stated as being Kemp’s has a grey trigger, and a long black tang coming off the back of the gun. The tang is a long point where the web the hand goes when holding the gun. The slide rests partly above it.
In the Sidoris video, when he is flashing his light into the car passenger side, I cannot see this grey trigger or the long, pointed tang coming off the object which appears to be under Kemps leg, and even though the flashlight never shines directly on it, there seems to be enough light where these items should show. I sopped the video and this point and could not see these markings.
Excuse me.
I meant a grey hammer, not a grey trigger.
