  1. The high cost of borrowing money is on my mind today. Did you read the article: “Official says city saved on arena”, front page above the fold in today’s Evansville Courier&Press? Just doing the quick math is nauseating.

    The article by Zach Evans states that in 2010 the City of Evansville borrowed $122. million to build the arena. Evans says the city pays about $8. million per year on the debt. Evans further states that the city still owes $113.6 million on the debt.

    This being the year 2016, the city has been paying $8. million per year for 6 years for a total of $48. million. But wait, Evans said the city still owes $113.6 million on the debt, so less than $9. million of that $48. million went to principal! So in round figures, if you look at the $48. million figure, $40. million went to interest on the debt and $8. million went to principal. That does not even include the cost of keeping and maintaining the facility, a figure that I have not seen in print lately.

    To be fair the arena does produce revenue, but again, I have not seen any verifiable figures on what it has taken in for each year of its operations.

    • Press, you certainly put a clearer picture on how the City squanders money away on interest payments.

    • One question;

      Does he believe climate change is a hoax like he tells people like you, or does he believe climate change is real like he states in his permit to save his golf course?

      Or does he say a combination of things until he picks up everyone who doesn’t remember how good of shape this country was in in 2000?

      74 months of private sector job growth compared to 700,000 jobs lost a month in 2009 and the people want radical change.

      Like the hurricane told the palm tree, “Hang on to your nuts cause this isn’t going to be an ordinary blow job.”

      Jesus Christ Almighty….

      • The climate on this planet has always been in a state of “change”, and I expect it always will be. A major volcanic explosion or two could spell the end of life as we know it, as would be the case if we had a major meteor strike. The only power in possession of man that could pose an immediate threat to the earth, IMHO, is nuclear. Nature, on the other hand, could take mankind out with a simple mutant virus.
