Uncle Dudley by Pat Sides

Standing on the left is Chester (Chet) Behrman, carrying his familiar polka-dot lunch pail, with the young winner of the “Run for the Toys” contest sponsored by the B-1 Lemon-Lime Soda company at the Sears store in 1959. Known to his young television audience as “Uncle Dudley,” Behrman starred for eight years in the popular weekday children’s show he created in 1956 for WFIE-Channel 14. Under his direction as program manager, WFIE also became the first television station in Evansville to “go all color.” After retiring his television character in 1964, Behrman, whose career spanned nearly four decades, wrote documentaries for radio and television and produced other children’s programs, including “Salt Creek Trolley.”
