OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY JACK SCHRIBER CONCERNING HIS POLITICAL FUTURE

17

Nearly 40 years ago, I had an improper relationship with a young man. It was wrong, and I have grieved over this since that time. Earlier this year, I was asked by a police liaison to Holly’s House to help this person in the healing process by writing a letter to that person. It is my understanding that this is sometimes common in such situations. I was willing to do that, and in good faith and with the understanding that this matter would be kept confidential, I wrote that letter. That letter was not kept confidential.

Evansville is my home, and it is a place I truly love. I have tried to serve the community my entire life. Unfortunately, I have become a distraction to an important political election for our city. That is not fair to the wonderful men and women who enter the arena and seek public office. So today I am suspending my campaign for City Council At-Large. While it is too late to withdraw from the ballot, if elected, I will not serve and I will leave the selection of my replacement to a caucus.

Finally, and most importantly, I want to apologize to my wife, Sue, to my family, to my friends and colleagues, and to my supporters. I am sorry for any heartache I may have caused you.

Sincerely,

Jack Schriber

  1. Jack Schriber held himself out as a pillar of the community. His big campaign spiel that there was no sense of decorum in City Council meetings. I knew Schriber was a fraud when he made those claims about the amount of Cash the City held (defending the $ 8 Million needed transfers to meet payroll). This admission that Jack committed criminal deviant sexual behavior with a minor pretty much seals my suspicion. Gosh, and this guy was worried about ‘decorum’ ??

  2. In this brief statement, Jack Schriber exhibits the hallmark behavior of a pedophile. He is angry that the police and/or Prosecutor did not keep his dirty little secret, but doesn’t comprehend that his own behavior was despicable. It is most telling that his victim and the victim’s friends and family are not included in his apology. I, for one, want to know what Winnecke knew about this and when he knew it. This reeks of a Watergate-style cover-up. except the crime was against a person, not property.

    • Winnecke was involved in Civic Theatre summer productions during the mid 70s, and everyone (including him) involved in those shows knew about Schriber’s escapades.

      • So we’re saying the Mayor endorsed a known child molester . . .

And the FOP endorsed an alleged wifebeater (Weaver) without vetting ?

Does this sum it up ?

    • Winnecke is counting on any residual public goodwill or pity towards Schriber to make this go away quickly. He willfully enabled his mentor and ticketmate, recruiting Old Reliable to serve as a rubber stamp on the city council. It’s time for the mayor to face to public. Schriber’s crime is despicable and his tepid apology compounds it. He doesn’t seem to get it . He bemoans the timing of this coming up, the very thing he should be most thankful for. An earlier disclosure could well have landed this confidant of Lloyd Winnecke in the slammer for many years.

He’s your man, Winnecke, your hand-picked ticketmate. Got anything to say about it? You lost votes yesterday, and some more today. A little chat with your disillusioned public might stop the vote hemorrhaging. Maybe you’d rather the voters think about this than your financial legerdemain? You could always call your other buddy, Ken Haney, in for a distraction and some more free money or get those plastic crosses up and running so the city can make another failed appearance in federal court. Jack Schriber has supplanted Weaver and Mosby as the face of your administration even though he imploded before casting a single vote on your behalf.

The longer you go without addressing the matter the more suspect your eventual pronouncement will be, if that’s possible.

  3. An “October surprise.” Anyone else think maybe he has former lovers that currently hold public office?

    • English Bob: That is exactly what any rational human adult would presume, the rest of them should be held to the fire until the rest of the saga is in the sunshine. I don’t even live near there and only visit, however during my business interactions at that location I have experienced some pretty demonstrable behavior from some of your cities elected/appointed personalities. When ones ID is their passport things get complicated if a traveler reported the incursions of a persons well being, under some conditions. Next thing your community needs to do is remove the little throngs some of those rotten individuals exist on.
One thing needs to be clear to any woman visiting your town and hitting a downtown club to relax, is, never lose sight of your drink in the presence of that councilman weaver creep, never. Reporting his obnoxious behavior in your town seems to have little affect. That creepy rude obnoxious little jerk is a certifiable sexual predator as well.

      Disgusting.

  4. Excuse me, but I don’t think that raping a 15 year old child repeatedly over a 2 year period constitutes a “relationship”

  5. Ugh. To bring this to light and do what is necessary to insure there are consequences for the immoral and illegal behavior is important and imperative.
    But it is ugly.

    • Well PRESSANYKEY. I can think of one.
Eliminating early voting can sometimes be very helpful if you are trying to suppress the vote of a constituency that has difficulty finding time to vote on Election Day.
A lot of politically motivated Voting Officials find “spurious and immoral, and frivolous reasons” to restrict voting times because they know clearly and certainly it will inhibit voting by a constituency group they don’t want to vote.
A lot of the working poor, working 2-3 jobs, they can’t vote on Election Day because of time limitations and availability.
Now, you can find an onerous, administratively tedious way for them to vote called “absentee ballot,”…but the EASIER AND SIMPLER way is to allow early voting. What happened with Shriber is not the norm, and such an extreme example should not be leveraged to restrict voting…unless you are an opportunistic vote inhibitor. Then, it’s a good thing to take advantage of.
We want people to be able to freely and easily cast their legitimate vote.
(Some people will say, “NO. We don’t. I want to restrict voting to those people I think will vote for my people.”
I hope you’re not one of those people PRESSANYKEY.)

      • We could make election day a holiday, but they oppose that too. The only way to keep their conservative relevance is to suppress the vote as much as possible.

    • So funny. Some people are probably regretting their votes now. It’ll be interesting to see his numbers. He never had my vote anyway. I’ve heard stuff. Talk. Lots in the closets. This mayor with all his theatrical leanings. Is Mr Coures writing the Central HIGH drama production for their next fundraiser at the Reitz museum. Sometimes you have to shine a light on some ugly stuff but it needs to be done. His behavior with students is so inappropriate and anyone who would involve themselves in the cover-up is despicable. Geez what kind of party is this local group of GOPs… just a bunch of lying immoral and predatory snakes.
