A local University of Southern Indiana student named Jenna Sharp will be painting an outdoor mural at River Kitty Cat Café thanks to a $2,500 Endeavor Award for Research & Creativity.

According to USI, the purpose of the Endeavor Awards is to support the creative and research efforts of undergraduate students. All USI students from all majors are welcome.

Jenna traveled to Denver, Colorado in August 2019 to spend some time working with mural artist Lindee Zimmer. The remaining funds went towards supplies for the mural itself.

Jenna reached out to the Vanderburgh Humane Society team in early 2020 about selecting River Kitty Cat Café as the site of her mural.

“We were thrilled that Jenna thought of River Kitty when considering where she would create her mural,” says Amanda Coburn, VHS Development Coordinator. “Public art enriches all our lives, and with our downtown district thriving the way it is, this is the perfect time for a new mural downtown. It will help attract more visitors to River Kitty which will ultimately help raise funds for homeless shelter cats in our community.”

Jenna will be working on the mural through approximately this Thursday, March 19th, weather permitting.
