Lincoln School to Open In-House Food Pantry
Monday, April 23
10:30 a.m. – noon
Lincoln School, 635 Lincoln Ave.
On Monday, Lincoln School will celebrate the grand opening of its very own food pantry. The school-located pantry is the only one of its kind in the city and in the entire Tri-State area, and will support families attending Lincoln School.
According to Lincoln Principal Ronnetha Darrett, the food pantry has been two years in the making. “We knew that many of our families needed assistance and that they had to travel to food banks, sometimes out of our neighborhood to get food for their families. This started us thinking ‘Why can’t we have a food bank here?'”
Fast forward two years and Lincoln is ready to open their own pantry. Darrett says the opening is only possible because of generous support from the community, including the EVSC Foundation, AARP, Carver Community Center, Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office, and countless community supporters.
The pantry will be open three days a week by appointment only and families interested will need to submit applications. The school plans to serve approximately 30 to 40 families each week.
