Kenneth Albert Catron, 69, of Chandler, Indiana passed away peacefully at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Indiana on August 28, 2019.
Kenneth was born December 30, 1949, in Evansville, to Albert and Aline Catron. He has lived in Chandler his whole life and was a graduate of Castle High School, class of 1967. Kenneth served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, during the Vietnam War as a Radio Repair Mechanic and spent 10 months in Vietnam. He supported his family by his hard work at Bootz Mfg. Co. for approximately 45 years. Kenneth dedicated his spare time to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Den Leader for Chandler, IN Cub Scout Pack 166 in 1997-1998. He was an Assistant Cubmaster for the pack. He was Scoutmaster for Chandler, IN troop 165 from 2001 to 2003. During this time, he helped pave the way for many scouts to earn the top Eagle Scout Award. He was awarded the Lincoln Heritage District Award of Merit in 2004. He was an Assistant Course Director for the Wood Badge advanced leaders’ course during the late 2000’s. In 2008 he earned top Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s national honor society. He served on the Lincoln Heritage District Eagle Scout Board. He served on the Buffalo Trace Council Committee. He volunteered as a Campmaster for Old Ben Scout Reservation near Winslow, IN.
Upon retiring in 2011, Kenneth volunteered his time at the Mother Teresa thrift shop. He has been a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Newburgh since 1985. His favorite holiday was always Christmas. Kenneth was a handyman. He had the knowledge and skills to repair and fix anything. He had a green thumb. His garden will surely be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ruby Presbitero Catron; son, Timothy Alan Catron of Parker, CO; sister, Paula (Bill) Clark of Boonville, IN; sister, Karen (Bill) Richardson of Cloverdale, IN; several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his mother, Aline Persinger Catron; father, Albert I. Catron; sisters, Bonnie Catron and Faith Catron Kellems.
The family would like to thank Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center and Southern Care Hospice for their tender and loving care. The family would also like to thank Don Persinger (cousin) for all his help and support during Kenneth’s illness.
Viewing will be held at the Koehler Funeral Home Perigo Chapel in Chandler on September 4, 2019 from 2pm to 7pm and again on September 5, 2019 from 8am to 10am. Funeral Service will on September 5, 2019 at 10am at the Perigo Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Chandler where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Scout Troop 161, St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, or the American Cancer Society.
