Around 1:15 AM the Evansville-Vanderburgh Central Dispatch Center began receiving 911 calls from residents reporting gunfire in the the area. A total of 10 calls were received. Deputies tracked footprints in the grass, which led to a residence in the area where several juveniles were located.

An investigation revealed that two of the juveniles had fired a .357 revolver into two different residences, one located on Rode Road and one on Memory Lane. The projectiles penetrated the wall of a home, with one bullet being found in a living room cabinet.

The juveniles are believed to have selected the homes at random. The investigation was aided by the fact that the juveniles recorded themselves with a cellphone while firing the handgun at the homes.
