IS IT TRUE MAY 25, 2016

IS IT TRUE commend the excellent job that EPD Gang Taskforce and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutors office did to round up about 25 gang members a couple of days ago?  …we hope that the Judge will keep their lawless asses in jail until law enforcement professionals can figure out to do with them?

IS IT TRUE last evening a diverse group of informed voters met at North Park Library to build a strong foundation for an organization that shows potential for being a positive influence on the future of Evansville and Vanderburgh County?  …there was a good turnout, of about 65 people who met to refurbish and reactivate the very successful volunteer group formerly known as CORE?

IS IT TRUE In its previous incarnation, CORE was focused on defeating the proposal to consolidate City and County government?  … It accomplished that resoundingly?  …about two-thirds of Tuesday’s group were people who had been involved with CORE, and a third of were newcomers?  … the discussion centered on an effort to enlighten, educate, and empower the public to make government more transparent and responsive to public interests.?  …the new name being considered is E-3, (as in E to the third power) because of the goal to enlighten, educate, and empower the public?

IS IT TRUE there was a good discussion of the individual concerns of those in attendance, that ran the gamut of fluoridation of our water to the CSO project and many things in between?  … we are hopeful for the future of this group of local activists and encourage our readers to go to future events that it sponsors?  …we hope this group will encourage the masses to conduct an olde fashion “Tea-party” protest against excessive spending habits of our local elected officials in front of the Civic Center?… we will keep you informed on future meeting of E-3?

IS IT TRUE the Eastside Fire Station #9 water was schedule to have their water turned off because of  non-payment of bills for the last 3 months?  …the water  department employee assigned to turn off Fire Station #9 water got a second opinion from a supervisor and was told to leave it on?  …if you didn’t pay your water bill for 3 months the City of Evansville Water and Sewer would cut you water off without any questions ask?

IS IT TRUE yesterday one of our bloggers PRESSANYKEY posted the following comments we felt worthy of reposting?  …he said: “The high cost of borrowing money is on my mind today?  …”Did you read the article: “Official says city saved on arena”, front page above the fold in today’s Evansville Courier&Press”?   …Press also stated “Just doing the quick math is nauseating”?  …also stated that the “The article by Zach Evans states that in 2010 the City of Evansville borrowed $122. million to build the arena”?  … “Evans says the city pays about $8. million per year on the debt.’? … “Evans further states that the city still owes $113.6 million on the debt.”?  …”This being the year 2016, the city has been paying $8. million per year for 6 years for a total of $48. million.?  … “But wait, Evans said the city still owes $113.6 million on the debt, so less than $9. million of that $48. million went to principal?  …” So in round figures, if you look at the $48. million figure, $40. million went to interest on the debt and $8. million went to principal.?  … “That does not even include the cost of keeping and maintaining the facility, a figure that I have not seen in print lately”?.

IS IT TRUE  PRESSANYKEY also stated; “to be fair the arena does produce revenue, but again, I have not seen any verifiable figures on what it has taken in for each year of its operations”?  …we can’t wait to hear what Joe Wallace and former City Councilman John Friend – CPA has yo say about PRESSANYKEY post concerning  the refinancing of the FORD CENTER?

FOOTNOTE:  Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that GOP Chairman Wayne Parke should endorse any candidate in the Republican primary?

I actually had this job a couple of decades ago. It is not as black and white as you would believe. Unless you were a complete idiot you did not just turn off the water. Usually homes with children and businesses did get more consideration. Mistakes happen. A call to the supervisor to let them know the situation was all it took. We usually gave them a time frame to fix the problem. 24 to 72 hours was the norm. Like I said mistakes happen when paper work goes from downtown to meter office to turn off person.

  2. Anytime I have had a mortgage the interest has been front loaded. I paid mostly interest the first five to eight years on a thirty year mortgage. This was in the 70s. Has this changed?

    • Nope, nothing changed since then except we “give” our savings to the bank, instead of earning 5%.
Compound that 5% yearly on what used to be in those accounts and we lost some serious money these past 15-20 years!

I believe it was said back when the arena was being pushed that $125 million was going to cost around $200 million when it was paid off. No different with a $125,000 house costing $200,000 when it gets paid off!

  3. As long as it’s taxpayers money the politico will waste as much as it takes to get their friends and own pockets full

  4. “keep their lawless asses in jail” – love that comment! Bravo to the CCO Editors for the refreshing non-PC straight talk!

      • I understand the temptation to denigrate the participants by calling them ‘gang’ members (or wannabe gang-members, or something like that), but make no mistake that Evansville has a gang problem. When groups of young men and women are shooting, stabbing, and beating each other over turf, drugs, perceived slights, and other urban beefs, you have real gangs, doing real damage to their communities. They may not be nationally affiliated (yet), but they are the real deal as far as the problems they are causing to decent folks in their neighborhoods and the boys and girls in blue trying to keep things from spiraling completely out of control.

        • They need to be jailed when they shoot real bullets out of real guns. Don’t mess around with them. Lock them up and throw away the keys.

    • JoeBiden,
I think you are confused. Protesting someone else’s speech…..IS NOT opposing free speech.
But then….I think everyone agrees Trump supporters are such low intellect they can’t understand that distinction. (I’m messing w/ you in good humor, you know….)
Making it illegal to say something? THAT is restricting the right of free speech.

      • Attempting to squash political events with violence or threats of violence is ABSOLUTELY a restriction of free speech, and like it or not, the Bernie/Hillary crowd is the one doing the vast majority of this type of activity. You’ll probably get punched out by a Trumpite if you start raising a ruckus at one of his rallies, but only the lefties (to my knowledge) are wholesale shutting down campuses, obstructing roads and rioting in the streets to try and prevent such events from even taking place.

Also, LKB can annoy to me to no end, but she’s got me for life with this:

” It doesn’t matter which of the two presumptive nominees win the presidency, either. They are both criminals and reprobates.” 🙂

  5. If you remember there were some of us who noted that the downtown’s future had changed with the announcement of the IU Med School Campus. We had everyone telling us what a shot in the arm this would be for the downtown.

That changed the downtown hotel possibilities completely, from one of a heavily taxpayer subsidized project, to one where private interests would be much more likely to invest in such a project.

It appears that the Evansville Redevelopment Commission was having none of that, even though the financing package for the hotel project had not, at that point in time, been approved by the ERC.

These ERC Minutes get very interesting at about page 9 through to the close of the minutes. One person spoke up for fiscal sanity.

  6. I bet Joe has a totally different attitude toward the Boston Tea Party than the one he has toward what happened in Albuquerque last night. He can’t see that there is a second American Revolution in the making. It doesn’t matter which of the two presumptive nominees win the presidency, either. They are both criminals and reprobates.

    • But … possibly … the tricorner hat would frame The Beast’s rosy hemorroidal face marginally better than that hoghead Drumpf sports on his effeminate shoulders.

Good people just aren’t going to run for high office until after there’s not much left to steal.

      • We need real public servants instead of greedy celebrities. That’s Bernie, and if the Dems run Hillary we’re done for. If Drumpf wins, the collapse will come quicker than if it’s Hillary.

    • I think you walked out in front of me at the meeting last night, but it didn’t occur to me that it was you util I was nearly back to my truck. Sometimes my thoughts are so trapped in my ADD that I am oblivious to everything around me. Next time shot a spit wad at me or something so I say hi.

      • I was distracted, too. I needed to borrow a book from a friend who was there and didn’t want to forget to get it. Glad you made it.

      • I believe German voters will be telling Chancellor Merkel instead…

        http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/angela-merkel-germany-approval-1.3597927

        EXCERPT:

“There is no more striking example of how fast political glory can fade than the astonishing and accelerating new perils facing German Chancellor Angela Merkel at home and abroad.

Only last fall the thrice-elected chancellor of Europe’s economic powerhouse was widely hailed as the moral conscience of the continent and “the indispensable European.” Merkel was applauded both for her dramatic action in the refugee crisis and her longstanding unofficial leadership role in the European Union. A Nobel Prize seemed on its way.

Now, how to count her woes? A majority of Germans — 64 per cent, according to a recent poll — are angry enough at Merkel that they feel she shouldn’t run for re-election next year and rifts are suddenly appearing in her ruling coalition government.”

        • I made reference to Merkel as the elected head of a fiscally sound nation, not as a particularly loved figure. Maybe I should have told you to tell it to the Germans, the British. the Swiss, the Norwegians, etc.

        • Denmark’s poverty rate is the same as ours. None of the scandinavian nations are the socialist utopia liberals like to claim they are, and they are as much capitalistic as socialistic. In fact, capitalism has created the best opportunities for all. Socialism gave us Stalin’s Russia and no Chavez’s Venezuela. .

  7. I’m surprized the EPD Gang Taskforce didn’t round up Lloyd “Taxman” Winnecke, Russ “What’s the Fuss” Lloyd, Kelly “Moneyman” Coures, and the rest of the Civic Center 3rd Floor Corner Office Crips. Well, we still have hope…

  8. Anybody who hasn’t read the articles on Wayne Pork and his chosen one today, you should. those are some interesting and funny reading.
