IS IT TRUE yesterday the Evansville Courier and Press posted a headline that “Coronaavirus is less threatening in Vanderburgh County than the everyday flu according to a top nurse”? …the Courier and Press also posted that Mayor Winnecke said: “he and top local health officials had been planning for days to publicly address the issue and acknowledging that flu is a greater concern than Coronavirus locally”  …Winnecke said “his purpose is to reassure people, debunk social media noise and be clear about “what the reality is in Evansville, Indiana, today” and “There’s no reason to be fearful. There are great plans in place. We have great health care providers that can handle this if the situation arises,” the mayor said, stressing the word, “if”?

IS IT TRUE we are told at this point that many people give more credence to what they read about the Coronavirus in the printed, online and social media outlets reports than a non-scientific opinion of a Mayor?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if the “TOP NURSE” can tell us which illness is more statistically life-threatening. the flu or the Coronaaavis?

IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County Council and County Commission has balanced the county budgets for five years in a row?….because of the conservative leadership of both County Commissioner and County Council, the budget continues to be balanced and reflect a budget surplus at the end of each year?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to local attorney Charles Berger for having the passion to force the EVSC to become accountable and practice “Good Public Policy”?  …because of Mr. Burger’s recent “Public Access For Public Records” request, the EVSC backroom closed doors decisions will soon become public?  …we hope and pray that one day soon another Charles Berger type will come forward and demand that the Evansville DMD,  City Controller, VenueWorks and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission make all the financial transactions pertaining to the funding of the Victory Theater, Facade Grants, Rehab loans and the Evansville Thunderbolts from day one public?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why the Evansville City Council didn’t approve the above grants awarded to the above not-for-profits instead of the Board Of Public Works?
IS IT TRUE recently the Vanderburgh County Commissioners and Evansville City Council passed “minimum square footage” housing ordinance? …this approval was well received by many local residents who want to live in “tiny homes” because of the extremely reasonable costs to build?  …we are told that several highly successful Realtors in Vanderburgh County proper are upset about this the “tiny homes” ordinance being approved because it will take away from their bottom line?  …we predict that the less than moderate-income residents living in the Jimtown and North Main Street areas will be able to afford to build one of these homes in this area? …we give five cheers (5) to our locally elected officials for making a ‘Good Public Policy’ decision?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty
IS IT TRUE when Christopher Cooke was hired as the Superintendent of the City Of Evansville Cemeteries the cemeteries had some serious challenges?  …over the years Mr. Cooke took the bull by the horn a made some much-needed improvements to our cemeteries on a barebone budget?  …we give five (5) cheers to Christopher Cooke the Superintendent of the City Of Evansville Cemeteries for during an excellent job in managing our cemeteries?
IS IT TRUE we appreciate Chanda Ramsey the Marketing & Communications Creative Director for the Southwest Indiana Chamber Of Commerce for sending us important news articles about the happenings at the area Chamber?
IS IT TRUE our “READERS POLLS” are non-scientific but trendy?
Today’s “Readers Poll” question is: Do you believe Mayor Winnecke’s statement “that there’s no reason to be fearful of the Coronavirus because there are great plans in place to handle this situation”?

  1. I’m not sure what the public expects the mayor to say. We don’t know if Coronavirus is coming here. If it does, I’m certain there’s boilerplate plans that every city follows to deal with it.

Is he supposed to stir up panic? Right now the flu *is* more dangerous than Coronavirus because one of them simply isn’t present in the city.

  2. The coronavirus is a real threat because of the panic and overreactions in the markets. If people are fearful enough to stop leaving the house to go shopping it will hurt this year’s growth. The damn media and democrats are fanning the fear for political gain. It is a good thing we are not a dictatorship because these people would be executed for their words.

    • If Reagan were in charge, we wouldn’t have any of this panic. He was a real Republican.

  3. MM and Y are correct. The flu is the biggest danger to the USA and, the rest of the world. This panic is liberal media, liberal Dumocrats and fear mongers. Red China, the epicenter of the Coronavirus will continue to have problems. Hell, it came from their lab. Real reason it effects China and many other 3rd world countries is dense population and totally inadequate medical care. The USA has stopped travel and enforced the borders. The USA has isolated travelers that might have been exposed to the virus. This will have minimal impact to the USA. World markets will be affected and there is not a damn thing we can do. Like in 2008, let it ride. It will turn around. The 24/7 liberal news, turn it off. Politicians, especially any with a D or tea party R, turn them off also.
