Introduction Of Republican Candidate For Vanderburgh County Sheriff

26

Kirk2-1Keeping you and your family safe!  This will be my first priority as your new Sheriff with new ideas.  I’m Lieutenant Kirk Byram, a 20 year veteran with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and senior active lieutenant.  I’m 43 years old, a father, a husband, and a Sunday school teacher.

I believe every law abiding citizen has a right to own a gun.  You should be able to protect your family just as I can mine.  I’m anti-consolidation, unlike my opponent, who worked hard for a bad plan that failed to save money or improve county government.

Currently, I’m serving the citizens of Vanderburgh County as a motor patrol commander and I am the agency’s lead firearms instructor and former lead emergency vehicle operations instructor.  I also instruct new law enforcement cadets at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

One of my new ideas to save the taxpayers money and improve the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s office is to revitalize the volunteer reserve deputy program.  One example, active reserve deputies could work in our jail.  This can help improve the booking process thus freeing up city and county officers from a long wait and putting them back on the streets protecting you and your family.

Reserve deputies can also help in serving subpoenas, warrants, and with community policing.  This puts more active deputies on the street preventing and solving crimes, so taxpayers get more for their money.

I started my career as a reserve deputy while working part-time and attending the University of Southern Indiana.  Next, I graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Then while serving as a deputy, I earned a Masters Degree in Criminology.  I continue using my education as a department instructor and to teach Criminal Justice courses at Ivy Tech.  I know and understand the value and importance of education, communication, and involvement in the community.

When I was sworn in as a merit deputy sheriff, I was the youngest deputy within the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.  I later went on to become the youngest Field Training Deputy, Instructor, Sergeant, and Lieutenant at the time of each appointment.  Throughout my career, I have served in various leadership positions including motor patrol, detention, and criminal investigations.

As Sheriff, I will stress community policing.  Our deputies should be spending more time patrolling neighborhoods and businesses.  We need to spend more time speaking and working with the residents to make our community safer for our families.  This will also include more use of social media so there is an ongoing dialogue with the residents of Vanderburgh County.  I will focus on saving money and better allocating our existing resources to protect and serve you and your family.

While off-duty, I spend time with my family and stay actively involved in the community.  My family and I teach Sunday school at our church.  We stay actively involved with our sons at their school where I also coach various sports.  I am also involved in Leadership Evansville and other community organizations.

My wife, Trina and our two sons have and will continue to meet as many of you as possible.  We want the citizens of Vanderburgh County to know they have a choice at the next election and that choice is clear.  Do you want a Sheriff’s Office with new ideas for our community or one that continues with the same policies of the past 30 years?  Elect me, Kirk Byram, as your next Sheriff.  My family and I would appreciate your support and vote.

  1. He sounds like a good candidate for the job with his education and experience. Who will be running on the democratic side?

  2. Kirk, I have a suggestion for you and all others who were against consolidation of city and county. Drop it because it is no longer an issue. The anti-forces carried the vote.

I repeat, drop it; it is no longer an issue. It makes it look that you feel you have nothing else to offer.

    • Why the animosity toward the Tea Party? This is a group of people that don’t want to leave a debt ridden country to their children. They are a small group that actively support candidates who realize we can’t keep kicking the can down the road. With your experience in the welfare system you know this problem is going to get worse, you also know that we have 4 generations of folks who have never seen a person go to work. Learned helplessness is a liberal taught human condition that accounts for a lot of the violence and criminal behavior this country is experiencing. I think we have a winner in Officer Byram. Surprised you would degrade such a fine citizen of this community. Not very becoming of you, expected better.

  3. Without knowing this gentleman personally, his story is impressive, his credentials impeccable.
With high hopes and the best interest of the County in mind,
he has my support and vote, at this time. …

  4. I do know Kirk personally. He’s what he says he is and he does what he says he will do.

  5. As an active law enforcement officer, I have put my full support behind Kirk. He is a great leader for our agency and has a strong desire to make it better. We work with great men and women, and with Kirk’s leadership, he has the ability to make them better. If I didn’t truly believe this, I wouldn’t be sacrificing my personal times to go out and support him.

  6. Kirk Byram is by far the man for this job. He is more than qualified and his new ideas will help improve Vanderburgh County dramatically. This county needs a change with an honest, knowledgeable leader (Kirk Byram), and the current “good ol’ boy” system where things are swept under the rug needs to be replaced. Kirk has my vote, along with several other county residents that I know and have spoken with.

  7. I am very please to have Kirk Byram run for Sheriff of Vanderburgh County on the Republican ticket. As can be seen from his Biography, he is very qualified with 20 years of experience and highly educated.

He is a good person who is proud to be a part of our community and proud to wear the uniform of a law enforcement officer serving the citizens of Vanderburgh County.

Please support Kirk Byram for Sheriff.

  8. I will be working for him as well as voting for him. I still wish the sheriff position was non-partisian. Dem/ rep has no effect on their ability to enforse the law. AS always my contributions to any campaign will be to a candidate never to a political party.

  9. Without a “D” behind a candidate’s name they could be Jesus Christ, and the Straight “Ticket Zombies” will trash that candidate, and call the candidate’s supporters “Nut Jobs”, rather than even consider a Citizen/Candidate who seeks office, is qualified, but heaven forbid runs as a “R”,–after all the “Straight Ticket Zombies” would have to split their vote, and have that “D” tattoo on their ass removed, and We all know that’s not going to happen.

    • Good Mornin’ Crash.
You may be right about the Strait Ticket Zombies
but if all of us with a brain and a vote show up at the polls, the best man just might win.
      Keep hope alive! …

      • Bingo! I’ve voted a straight ticket three times in my life. Anybody who thinks one party always has the best candidates is wrong.

        • Achieving political objectivity is difficult, however, it makes voting more fun, interesting and effective.

On the surface, Lieutenant Byram appears ideal.
Life lessons teach: Only time reveals the true nature of people and things. …

    • Not even close. Party affiliation means very little at the local level. We do have a republican mayor, remember?

      • Our mayor is as Republican as you are a space alien. He’s Jon-Boy reincarnated simply because Jon could run for dog catcher (with all due repsects do real dog catchers) and lose.
        .
Kirk, you’re my candidate for now. Keep pushing.
Where can I get a yard sign to show my support.

  10. Kirk is a courteous, intelligent, personable individual. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Dept. is fortunate to have this dedicated lieutenant. He is devoted to not only promote community security, and uphold individual rights, but also breaking the “good ole boy” chain. Consolidation may well be a dead issue for now, however, unlike his opponent whose thinking followed the current adm. to secure job position, Kirk has no problem saying & being committed to what is best for the department & residents as a whole.
Look at his credentials, listen to his platform, particularly his new ideas for Vanderburgh Co. Maybe we’ll be fortunate to a debate(s) between the two candidates & it’ll be obvious who deserves this important position.

    • Well said and couldn’t agree more!! Time will tell who is right for this job, and Kirk Byram is the right person hands down.
