Dwight Yoakam has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, placing him in an elite group of global superstars. He has 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums, including the triple platinum This Time. Five of those albums have topped Billboard’s Country Albums chart, with another 14 landing in the Top 10. Yoakam’s top singles, include the hits “Guitars, Cadillacs”, “Ain’t That Lonely Yet”,“Honky Tonk Man,” “Please, Please Baby,” “Little Ways,” “I Sang Dixie,” “It Only Hurts When I Cry,” and “Fast as You.” He is a 21-time nominated, 2-time GRAMMY Award winner.

Yoakam’s 2016 release, Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…

harks back to that landmark debut (Guitars, Cadilacs Etc., Etc.) in

its obviously cheeky title, while otherwise looking even farther back by recasting some of Yoakam’s most classic songs in

a style that not only predates cowpunk but antecedes his beloved Bakersfield sound. Yoakam even remakes “Guitars,

Cadillacs” in the style of “Man of Constant Sorrow.” No one is ever going to mistake a star so renowned for favoring snug

jeans with a Soggy Bottom Boy, but here, he clinches his status as at least an honorary Clinch Mountain lad. The original

idea was to make it a covers album, before it ended up being an album of Dwight Yoakam covers, with one notable exception – a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

In addition to his musical career, Yoakam is a formidable film and television actor, capable of seamlessly melting into his roles, and impressively standing toe-to-toe with some of the world’s top thespians over the course of his storied and successful acting career, including Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Leto, Forest Whitaker, and Matthew McConaughey.
