University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball announced that 5-foot-9 guard Emma DeHart (Indianapolis) has signed a national letter of intent to compete for Head Coach Rick Stein’s Screaming Eagles in 2017-18.

DeHart is currently a senior at Southport High School where she was an IBCA/Subway Underclass honorable mention All-State honoree as a junior in 2015-16.

A two-time All-Conference Indiana performer, DeHart led Marion County and Conference Indiana in scoring with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds per game. She set the SHS single-season school record for three-point percentage (.480) while connecting on 56 percent of her field goal attempts and 81 percent of her free throw attempts.

DeHart also was named an Indiana Top 65 player as well as All-Marion County in 2015-16.

“We are excited to welcome Emma to our team and USI family,” Stein said. “As you can see from her numbers, she is a guard that can make plays and shoots it well from everywhere.

“I like her size and we really feel like she can run either guard spot for us,” Stein continued. “She definitely will be able to stretch our opponent’s defense with her range from the three-point line.”

DeHart is the second player to sign a national letter of intent with USI Women’s Basketball during the early signing period. She joins 6-foot-4 center Audrey Turner (Fishers, Indiana) in signing with Stein’s Eagles for next season.

USI (2-0) hosts Hannibal-LaGrange University Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center. It is the first of a four-game homestand for the Eagles, who also host the University of Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday at 6 p.m. as well as the USI Thanksgiving Classic November 26-27.
