Deadline for 8th District Art Competition Quickly Approaching

(Evansville, IN) – The deadline for high school students to submit artwork for the 2016 8th District Congressional Art Competition is quickly approaching.

The contest, hosted by Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D., is open to all students currently enrolled in a high school located in the 8th District. This year, the focus in on “celebrating Indiana” to commemorate the Hoosier state’s bicentennial.

Bucshon holds the 8th District Congressional Art Competition every year, in concert with Representatives nation-wide, to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of high school students.

Participants must submit two-dimensional artwork up to 28 inches by 28 inches by 4 inches (including the frame) that weighs no more than 15 pounds.

All submissions must be delivered to Bucshon’s Jasper District Office by Tuesday, April 12th, Vincennes District Office by Wednesday April 13th, or Evansville and Terre Haute District Offices by Friday, April 15th. (This is a week extension of the original deadline.)

The winner will be selected by an expert panel from the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. His or her artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside artwork from other contest winners nation-wide.

The winner will also receive two free roundtrip airline tickets to Washington, D.C., a tour of the U.S. Capitol, and an invitation to the Congressional awards ceremony.  At the end of the year, the winning artwork will be returned to the student.
