1. Please, please, please don’t let RR and JB ruin another comments section. We can’t talk about anything without them sharing some article that goes 40 paragraphs down and has nothing to do with Evansville. Give them a general political forum and let the rest of us discuss more pertinent matters.

   • Out-Of-Control ICE Has Been Wrongfully Targeting Hundreds Of United States Citizens

     Reining in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) isn’t just an immigration issue, it’s a civil rights issue that affects all of us. Potentially hundreds of United States citizens are being wrongfully targeted by the mass deportation agency every year. New reporting is showing that this is being done in a process that several courts have already said is unconstitutional

     But “courts have repeatedly ruled against the Trump Administration’s position on ICE detainers” and those Court victories are why police departments and chiefs have repeatedly stood up to the Trump Administration’s demands for police to detain immigrants. It’s not only because it makes communities less safe, but because it would force police to conduct unconstitutional acts and open jurisdictions up for liability. This was outlined in great detail by immigrant rights advocacy group America’s Voice last year

     ICE ended up dropping over 80 detainees in the Miami-Dade area, a strong indication that it had wrongly identified dozens of United States citizens as being undocumented, the civil liberties group said. It’s unknown how many of the others were pursued or detained by ICE. The agency has illegally deported United States citizens in the past, and Florida could now be pushing itself into more legal trouble by considering a bill “that would force local governments to honor these ICE requests” Miami New Times reports

     In just one example of this out-of-control agency’s tactics, United States-born Peter Sean Brown was wrongly targeted for deportation to Jamaica last December with the help of a Key West Florida sheriff’s office that already has a history of harassing immigrants. Brown had never even heard of ICE before. He’s now suing ICE and saying “there has to be a stop at some point before it becomes all of us”

2. Trump Attack On Rep. Ilhan Omar Is An Open Celebration Of Bigotry And Hate

   When the New York Post ran a headline on Thursday insinuating that Representative Ilhan Omar had diminished the importance of events on 9/11, the Post headline was disgusting. But about what can be expected from a tabloid paper whose notions of journalistic integrity lie somewhere on the other side of the National Enquirer. The Post cover, pairing an out of context sentence from Omar with a gut punch image of the twin towers was emotionally manipulative and brutally disgusting

   Then (of course) Trump embraced it. He not only put a deceptively edited video on his Twitter feed, but pinned it to the top of his feed signalling that this is the most important message he wants to send the nation

   With sad irony, both the Post article and the Trump tweet are perfect examples of the point that Representative Omar made in the original speech. There is a group of Americans who are not just willing to accept that all Muslims are responsible for the act of a tiny few, but eager to stir hatred. It is not Representative Omar who is trivializing 9/11, it is Trump by turning that event into a partisan call to hate, he is dishonoring everyone who died, and everyone who suffered, and everyone who fought

   There is no way to interpret Trump’s action but as a call to violence. An invitation to hate, and hurt, not just an American congresswoman, but a whole community of American citizens. It’s not just disheartening and disgusting, it is also dangerous. Trump is not only inviting harm on Omar, but giving permission for the othering and injuring of millions of Americans. This action is beyond the pale, across any line, and should be unacceptable in any society

   The memory of 9/11 is sacred ground, and any discussion of it must be done with reverence. Trump shouldn’t use the painful images of 9/11 for a political attack, and is inciting violence against a sitting Congresswoman and an entire group of Americans based on their religion. Trump’s inflammatory and dangerous rhetoric towards Ilhan Omar is jeopardizing her safety. He is deliberately putting her and all Muslim Americans in harm’s way. It’s disgusting. It’s shameful. And any elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it

   If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them

Americans are finally seeing the democrats for what they are, Communist. In 2017 we had a fake hate crime right here in Evansville, a window was found CHIPPED at the Jewish Temple, without any proof the Rabbi screamed hate crime, the Mayor, our mayor a pseudo conservative, supported that allegation and the local FBI couldn’t prove anything but said it was PROBABLY a hate crime. After the stupid general at the Air Force Academy went all out over a racist term only to find it was really a SMOLLETT leaves most people to believe hate crimes are fake. I have had little use for Winnecke since that day and consider the rabbi little more than an attention seeking fake and the FBI, ell Trump has their number.
