The City-County Observer is excited to announce that well known and highly regarded local attorney Joe Harrison, Jr. has been appointed legal counsel to the City-County Observer. The CCO staff is extremely pleased that Mr. Harrison has agreed to be our legal Counsel because he is an extremely gifted lawyer with numerous experiences in the practice of  Business and Governmental law. Joe is well-liked and respected by people from both sides of the political aisle. He is well connected from Vanderburgh County to Indy.

The CCO staff feels that: “Joe’s governmental and business expertise are going to be valuable to the City-County Observer during the next several years if we  consider looking at any media partnership and merger opportunities.”

EDUCATION

Joe Harrison  Jr. graduated from Reitz Memorial High School, Evansville, IN 1977. He received his B.A. from DePauw University in 1981 and earned his J.D., at the Indiana University School of Law in 1984.

Mr. Harrison is currently an Attorney/of Counsel, with Massey Law Offices, LLC.  He was a  Partner in Bowers Harrison, LLP  from 2000 to August 2010.

He was also a partner, with Bowers Harrison, Kent & Miller in 1993 to 2000 and was also an  Associate of Bowers, Harrison, Kent & Miller from 1985 to 1993.

BAR ADMISSION

In 1985 he was admitted to the Indiana Supreme Court and in United States District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.  In 1999 he was approved to practice law in United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.

PRACTICE AREA

Mr. Harrison legal expertise is in Business and Corporate Matters with a concentration in Civil Litigation and Wills and Estates, Personal Injury Law, Zoning issues, Employment Law and Governmental Law

PAST AND PRESENT GOVERNMENTAL LEGAL EXPERIENCES

Mr. Harrison is currently an attorney for Posey County County Commissioners. He was the attorney for the Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners from 1997 to 2001 and from 2012 to 2018. He is currently the attorney for Evansville for the Vanderburgh County Building Authority. He is also a member of the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission from 2014 to the present. He was the attorney for the Area Plan Commission of Evansville-Vanderburgh County from 2002 to 2012.

Joe was the former attorney for the City of Evansville from 2005 to 2009.  He was also was the attorney of the Vanderburgh County Election Board from 1991 to 1997.  Mr. Harrison was also a former attorney for Vanderburgh County Council. Most notably he was the  Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Republican Central Committee from 1993 to 1997.

PERSONAL

Joe has one son, Joseph, III, who recently graduated from at Indiana University. and now is currently practicing law.

Mr. Harrison is an avid golfer and also enjoys the sport of horse racing.
