“IS IT TRUE” FEBRUARY 7, 2019

12

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE that earlier this week the Vanderburgh County Commissioners unanimously approved (3-0) an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with American Structure Point so they can start designing the new addition to the Vanderburgh County Jail? …this MOU releases $500,000 to AmericanStructure Point so they can start the Architectural and Engineering work on the new addition to the jail?  …that AmericanStructure Point has approximately 120 days to finalize a mutually agreed upon jail design? …yesterday the Vanderburgh County Council also approved this funding request?  …It’s great to see a consensus among the County Commissioners and County Council in the funding request to begin the design work on the new addition to the Vanderburgh County jail? …we also would like to thank Vanderburgh County Commissioners Ben Shoulders and Jeff Hatfield, Sherriff Dave Wedding, and the Vanderburgh County Building Authority Director, Dave Rector for the outstanding work they have done on this project so far? …we also commend all parties for agreeing that American StructurePoint should do the Engineering and Architectural design work on the new addition on the jail?

IS IT TRUE last year it was announced that the National Gridiron League newest addition will be the Indiana Firebirds from Evansville, Indiana?  …it was also announced that the Indiana Firebirds of Evansville Indiana will play there indoors arena football home games at Ford Center beginning in March of 2019?  …that last year Scott Schoenike, the Executive Director of the Ford Center told the Courier and Press; “that he has been in conversations with several leagues during the past few years but waited for the right match.”  that Schoenike also said; “that the city believe they have found one in the National Gridiron League”? ….that a lot of people are looking forward to watching Arena Football at the Ford Center?….we wonder why we haven’t seen any advanced marketing effort by the Ford Center in promoting the Evansville Indiana Firebirds first home game in March 2019 at the Ford Center?

IS IT TRUE that there was recently a patronage article online about the value that the downtown Doubletree is reportedly creating?…there is strength in numbers and just because some of the supporters of the subsidized edifice are cheerleading does not mean the numbers are working?…when real numbers showing over 65% occupancy at paying rates of $125 per night are made public, the downtown Doubletree will have proven to be a viable unsubsidized hotel?…until then articles touting its potential are nothing but fluff?…the same meaningless cheerleading went on with the Ford Center until it became blatantly obvious that the “it will pay for itself from day one” claims were nothing but hot air from aspiring former Mayor seeking a higher office?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why the former owner of the Evansville Iceman Hockey didn’t send Mayor Winnecke a thank you note to him for forcing him to leave town? …it’s obvious that the Evansville Thunderbolts are losing money and Ron Geary’s Jacksonville, Fla. IceMen is doing extremely well financially? …that the Jacksonville IceMen home games average attendance is around 6,000 patrons per game and are ranked 3rd in attendance out of the 27 teams in the ECHL?  …the Evansville Thunderbolts home game attendance count is somewhere in the 2,000 range?   …when the Evansville IceMen played at the Ford Center they paid around $10,000 a game and it’s been reported that the Evansville Thunderbolts pays a $1,000 for each home game?

IS IT TRUE that on page 2 article 5 of the federal indictment of Stephanie Tenbarge for stealing from Echo Housing it clearly states that all checks over $600 required two signatures?…that the signatures required for checks over $600 would be Stephanie Tenbarge and a member of the Echo Housing Board of Directors that was not named?…this begs the question about how many checks were written for over $600 and who was the second signature on those checks?…any board member who signed such checks for goods, services, or real estate taxes that assisted Ms. Tenbarge of allegedly defrauding Echo Housing should submit to questioning?  …attached is the link of the Federal indictment of the former ECHO HOUSING Director Stephanie Tenbarge Indictment.
IS IT TRUE that the ECHO HOUSING spin doctors are working overtime to convince the general public that all is well since the former Executive Director has been indicted for fraud? …we wonder how the ECHO HOUSING Board of Directors is going to replenish the $150,000 plus of missing money from the agency coffers?  …we predict if the  ECHO Housing Board of Directors try to collect money from the insurance company who carries their employee fraud insurance policy they will quickly realize that everything isn’t as rosy as their spin doctors are telling people?
IS IT TRUE that Bryan Bennett is doing the marketing and social media work for the Alex Burton campaign for 4th Ward City Council?
IS IT TRUE that our GOP “Mole” tell us that the local Republican party may have a contested primary race in the At-Large City Council race? …we are told that the party movers and shakers are really upset with the possibility of having a contested race in the Republican primary?
IS IT TRUE that the Political Director of Mayor Winnecke was recently arrested for driving under the influence?  …he has been fired by the Winnecke For Mayor campaign manager?  …recently the head coach of the Evansville Thunderbolts was also arrested for driving under the influence but was not fired?  …he was suspended from coaching for one week? …we always been told that “What’s Good For The Goose Is Good For The Gander?”
IS IT TRUE we been informed that a candidate for the Evansville City Council has had the crime-fighting “Guardian” van sitting right in front of his apartment for a while?  …a friend of the individual running for City Council tells us that his buddy has no idea why the Evansville Police Department decided to park the “Guardian” van in front of his apartment because he has no knowledge that his area has a problem with crime?
Todays“Readers Poll” question is: Did the Mayor make a major mistake when he didn’t do everything in his power to convince the Evansville IceMen to stay in Evansville?

  1. I will never understand why people continue to drink and drive.
Now days we have Uber, Yellow Cab and a wrecker services.
Those three options are cheaper than a DUI.
Think before you drink and think before you drive.

    • Yet this crap Joe Posts is the same “old” crud that shows there is NOT a crisis, just Trump lies

According to the latest statistics from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), 396,579 undocumented people were apprehended after entering the country illegally in 2018.

In 2000, however, more than 1.64 million illegal border crossers were apprehended

That’s a 76 percent DECLINE in the number of apprehensions between the peak in 2000 and 2018

So the FACT that “illegal” border crossings are at the lowest in 20 years, Trump and his mouthpiece Joe continue to LIE about this simple FACT all the time

      https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/oct/25/us-illegal-border-crossings-analysis-trump-migrants

        • Sigh….more Trumpsucker crap trying to get everyone to develop some sort of need for snorting Adderall and yell “SQUIRREL” to fund an unnecessary boondoggle

“The number of migrants apprehended by Border Patrol at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2018—396,579 people—was the fifth-lowest total since 1973. The number of adult migrants traveling without families (239,331) was almost certainly the second-lowest total since 1970”

“In 2018, the average Border Patrol agent apprehended 23 migrants all year long, even as his or her agency was assisted by the deployment of 2,400 National Guard soldiers. And since 40 percent of those were families and children (most of whom SOUGHT THE AGENTS out to request asylum) the average Border Patrol agent, in fact, apprehended 14 single adult migrants during all of 2018. One every 26 days”

Yes, the majority of those “apprehended” were actually those LEGALLY requesting asylum

“Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the LEGAL ports of entry notably slowed their reception of asylum-seekers. During just three months (March, April, and May 2018) more than 6,000 children and families reported to ports of entry as what CBP calls “inadmissibles”

But every month since June the number of children and families at the ports has held mysteriously steady at 4,000 per month, even as “zero tolerance” was encouraging them to approach the official crossings”

Yeah, more obfuscation from you, this time using data almost SIX MONTHS OLD

          • RR, you believe everything on MSNBC. That is fine. But facts are stubborn things and may be an antidote to Trump derangement syndrome:
            ………………..
“Last year, DHS encountered more than 3,000 “special interest aliens” — individuals with suspicious travel patterns who may pose a national security risk, or people from countries with ties to terrorism — at our southern border.

We are also facing a humanitarian catastrophe. For the first time, families and children make up the majority of those entering illegally. Why? Because word has gotten out that our broken legal framework will give them a “free pass” into the United States. This has dramatically changed the migrant flows, and it is a crisis because our system wasn’t built to handle it.

The trek has become a nightmare, with more than 30 percent of women reporting sexual assault along the way and 70 percent of all migrants reporting violence. Aliens, including children, are coming into our custody sicker than ever. Border Patrol refers an average of 50 cases a day to medical providers.

The situation cannot be ignored. Despite the facts provided by front-line DHS professionals, some public figures and commentators claim that there is no crisis, or that it is “manufactured.” There is nothing manufactured about children arriving at our borders dehydrated and sick, migrants being abused on a lawless pathway, deadly drugs coming across in droves, or criminals evading our defenses. Facts are stubborn things and tell a completely different story. The situation is serious.”

        • By using a pitiful article written by DHS Bimbo-In-Charge Kirstjen Nielsen. that has the accuracy and veracity of jack-squat. She lies for Trump (kinda like you) and is even facing a Congressional Subpoena for LYING to Congress. So a self-serving steaming pile means……jack squat

The steaming pile you reference was part of a two-part set of opinion pieces, and the companion article is:

Trump Wall Wouldn’t Fix Problems At The Border

If there is a truly frightening crisis, it is in the White House. It comes in form of an erratic, fearmongering president making as much noise as he can while pushing hard on all of democracy’s pressure points

In 2017, the last year for which the FBI has compiled data, there were 17,284 instances of murder and non-negligent manslaughter in the USA. These are serious crimes, and this is a serious matter. But few political leaders these days talk about a violent crime “crisis” because the problem is far less acute than it was in the 1990s, and because no one has any easy solutions

Much the same is or should be, true about illegal immigration. It is a serious matter. The United States cannot be seen as providing a pass to those who come here unlawfully. And the nation is dealing with an upsurge in migrants from Central America

This is a significant problem, particularly in the southern border states and for the migrant families themselves, but it is not a major national crisis. Illegal immigration is actually down sharply from its highs of the past two decades, thanks to fewer people coming from Mexico. The United States, moreover, has dealt with far larger influxes of refugees. After the fall of Saigon in 1975, and during the Ethiopian famine of the 1980s

Trump wants there to be an immigration crisis, and he tried to make a case for one in a prime-time speech in January that repeated his usual litany of exaggerations, falsehoods, and guilt-by-association. In the latter part of the address, he focused on the violent crimes committed by undocumented immigrants, at one point indignantly asking, “How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?” without acknowledging that these people actually commit crimes at a LOWER rate than the native-born population

Trump wants/needs a crisis because he thinks it will gain him leverage in a mundane but damaging dispute he is in with Congress that shut down parts of the government. He wants $5.7 billion for his border wall, which he now calls a physical barrier made of steel, the one Mexico was supposed to pay for.

In the days leading up to the January speech, Trump said he was considering an even more overwrought response: declaring a national emergency in a bid to repurpose national security spending to his wall project. But that would tie the wall up in lengthy legal challenges

By invoking the language of crisis, Trump is hoping to shift the largely negative public opinion about his wall

But the public understands that the wall is a costly, impractical solution to the illegal immigration problem, half of which consists of people who enter the United States legally and overstay their visas. And while drugs are an enormous challenge, virtually ALL the Mexican heroin comes through legal points of entry

  2. State Votes in Democrats… Now Citizens Face ‘Rain Tax’

“When it rains, it pours — but the trickling sound coming from New Jersey could be taxpayers’ money going down the drain, at least if liberals get their way.

Just months after residents in that state voted for nearly all Democrats in the last election, including electing Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy to replace Republican former Gov. Chris Christie, the left has found a bizarre new way to dig into people’s pockets: A “rain tax.”

According to WLNY, a CBS station in New York, New Jersey has passed a stormwater utility bill that imposes fees on property owners — individuals and businesses — who have large parking areas that get wet during downpours.”

    https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/state-votes-democrats-now-citizens-face-rain-tax/

    • Looks like Joe is scraping the trash pile to find things he can use those liberal boogeymen to scare right-wingers with. Considering this article is from another Trumpsucker website, it is crap

As water flows off of streets, parking lots, and building rooftops, it picks up fertilizers, pesticides, oil, and automotive fluids, pet waste, sediment, and other pollutants. This simple process of untreated stormwater flowing through gutters and storm drains pollutes rivers and streams and threatens drinking water. It also causes problems like local flooding of streets and homes, beach closures, fish advisories, and sewage system overflows.

This BS moniker of a “rain tax” is blatantly false. It is designed to mislead and confuse. The truth is that this is a fee to reduce pollution from water that washes off hard surfaces and empties into local waterways. Runoff pollution is real.

The bottom line is that this work must be done. There are federal and state requirements to reduce runoff pollution from urban and suburban areas. A fee on an impervious surface is often the best model to do this because the fee is connected to the cause of the pollution

With all the challenges faced by state and local governments, they often have chosen to do the minimum required to reduce polluted runoff. With adequate dedicated funding, local governments can implement practical, proven solutions that were previously too expensive, or that could have only been done if money was taken from other important social services. The fee discussed here also provides important leverage for financing projects with bonds or state revolving loans

Regardless of financing option, local creeks and rivers will get cleaner only to the degree local officials fund needed work. Little or no new funding will continue to mean dirty, unhealthy local waters

  3. Please stop with ECHO Housing. There is no evidence anyone there besides the former director did anything wrong. To continually hammer a non profit that serves the community with no evidence or basis is just wrong. Those people have been through a lot, perhaps consider supporting your community? Honestly the coverage of this has been disgusting. Muckrake elsewhere and let those people be, they’ve had a long year and from what I hear, they’ve never stopped doing their job.
